#2 is still on the bench. Just need to finfis the fuse and cap the wings. #1 is getting covered by my friend Buddy. I call him Mr. Double since he has taken a new job at the electric plant last year he has worked more double shifts than any human should. He called me day before yesterday saying he had afew spare hours and was starting the covering.
As soon as I get it back pictures will be posted. |

Hey Arch,
I wish we could get up there. I was just talking to Mikey and he was telling me some stories about last year. Man I would love to go!! Chris can't miss that much school and I can't miss that much work. I really hope you come to Dist 3 Championships this year. I'm looking forward in meeting you and I know Chris can't hardly wait either. Friday night before the contest I'm going to be cooking some real good Boston Butt on the fire. I'm going to have my Father's 40 ft 5th wheel trailer there and we are going to set up and have a good time. You will be well fed that weekend southern style. See ya soon Larry Odom Team Black Magic |

Finally had a little time to get back into the shop and am I glad I did. Found that my stab tube was not where it should be when I trammeled everything up so I cut it out and reinstalled it nice and square.
The stabs and wings are capped and the glue is drying so it's time for a cold one and a little sleep since the little guy is sleeping soundly for the first time in a week. Teething is a killer. I'll take some pics once I get all the sanding done. |
RE: Black Magic v2 builder's thread! *Updated*
I'm finally through covering and doing the final trimming. I should not take me too long to get set up again since it was already set up once. Pics coming soon.

Finished the wings up last night. Ready to cover they weigh 290 and 292 grams. I little lighter than the last pair I built which came in over 300 grams each.
I need to finish capping the stabs, rudder, put in the hard points and glue the canopy to it's frame and it will be ready to get covered too. I'm thinking about using the BVM hatch latches on this one instead of bolts to hold the canopy on. Any thoughts on this? I really hate sanding the blocks around the fin. I'll post this over on the Custom Airframes forum so there is info there too. |

RE: Black Magic v2 builder's thread! *Updated*
Oh yeah! Almost there. Keep it up - you're going to love the way these fly. I'm building 2 VF-3's this Winter but I plan on flying my V2.2 a lot even after they're both done.

RE: Black Magic v2 builder's thread! *Updated*
I talked to Mike at length about doing a VF3 and the conclusion we came to was I don't need it until I hit Masters of FAI. I'm going to do an electric V2 this winter. I'll do a build thread over on the CAA site. That will make 3 V2s for me next year.

RE: Black Magic v2 builder's thread! *Updated*
Pete,
Anthony Romano put my V2.2 through the FAI P sequence a few weeks ago. No problemo. He flies Masters and FAI with his V2.2 so yeah you don't NEED a VF-3 just yet. Neither do I. But hey - they're cool! I'll probably move up to Masters at the end of next season so by then I should have my VF-3's dialed in and be ready to get my butt kicked. At least it won't be the airplane's fault. LOL John Pavlick Team Black Magic, Tech-Aero Designs |
RE: Black Magic v2 builder's thread! *Updated*
You will need to put a YS in that VF3 and there will be much rejoicing......
I went down to put the hard points in last night but didn't as I couldn't find my forstner bits. I prefer to use those as opposed to a brass tube as the hole comes out so clean with the forstner bit. Maybe tonight. |
