RE: Hebert's Shinden

Matt, you need the 6V regulator. They do make one that is part of the switch, either works well. You're just now getting a rash? I'm using Gold Bond already, and I've been flying!

Bryan Hebert came over and gave my Shinden kit a close look. He was highly pleased with the fit, finish and overall quality of the kit. Told me my kit was better than his, even. Lighter, for sure. I'd thought this one was really good, but sometimes your eyes can tell you what you want to see, so I had the perfectionist go over it. Passed inspection with flying colors. Sorry, Jon. This one will fly right out of the box, nothing to adjust.

Some weights of the kit: Wing panels each = 450g
stab halves each = 140g
total fuse weight less firewall, including canopy = 2520g that's five lb 8.8 oz.

This baby will make weight , no problem. This prototype has landing gear for the electric version, which is a touch heavy, but BVM has a shorter gear coming for these first five which are much lighter, and say they will ship them right out. All of the second batch will have them, along with a BVM hatch latch, which this one does not. There is a really cool chin cowl latch, though. Pull two tabs back, and it snaps right off, exposing the motor. The plane will easily make weight with this landing gear, however, and I'm considering using it anyway. I like the way they look. The paint scheme is much better looking than that on the BVMprops website, too. They added one more color.

The plane is HUGE! Looks like an IMAC plane to me, I remember the Aurora, Atlanta, TigerTail, etc. Shucks, I remember Ron Chidgeys Typhoon with the first four cycle pattern engine made. You could put that fuselage inside of this fuselage, with room to spare. Better count on using the YS 160, or a lot of electric motor. Bryan does design to the current available power plant. I'm working a lot, it may be a month or so before this flies, will post the results. It is looking really good, right now.

RE: Hebert's Shinden

Sounds great, Brian. I'd kinda like a Shinden... I'm gonna order some more parts from Central this weekend, and I'm gonna ship that engine mount to Merle in the next couple of days so he can take a look at it and see what needs to be done with it. I called Central yesterday to check on the YS parts, and he said the parts didn't actually come in yet, just the engines. Said maybe another week before the parts get there. Kinda frustrating, but what ya gonna do? See you at the field saturday!

RE: Hebert's Shinden

You can always call YS if you are in need of parts. Troy Newman, said that they got a huge parts order in, so try them.

RE: Hebert's Shinden

Yeah, I though he was saying Central got parts in... Next time I'll go straight to them, but the parts are already paid for from Central (it was a Christmas present) so, I'll just have to wait. No rush, I need more than just engine parts at the moment, I won't stress until I've got everything else and I'm just waiting on the engine.

Brian, you sound like an absolute pattern animal...fly rain or shine...:)

RE: Hebert's Shinden

Well, yeah!

(Of course, that led to the demise of my LAST plane; rain shorted out the antennae)

RE: Hebert's Shinden

That was indeed a sad day... I still remember what that sounded like... sends chills down my spine. Yeah, Bryan and Brian will spend all day at the field when it's raining and fly between showers... they're hardcore. Me, I just plan on bringing some food for the barbeque... and I hope y'all like deer sausage.

RE: Hebert's Shinden

Well, Glen, we spent the day at the field today... rained all day, temperature was about 50 with strong, cold winds. Bryan H flew Brian C's plane with about 15 to 20 minutes of daylight left. It was a good day at the field. We also all got to see Brian's Shinden that just came in. If you go to BVM Props and look at the Shinden, he has the one with pink on it. I was skeptical about that color scheme, but the pictures on BVM Props does not do it justice. It is definitely a beautiful airplane and I can't wait to see it fly. Yes, we are definitely pattern animals.

By the way, Matt, you turned out to be an excellent cook! Hamburgers were great, that deer sausage made from the deer you shot with your thirty-aught-jeep was great, you may have just gotten yourself elected designated chef when we elect club officers again! Everybody KNOWS that the guys at Dixie cook and eat almost as much as we fly! It's all about the good time.....

When do we get to see pictures of your new Shinden. I am anxious to see good pictures of the scheme you got.

I have no problem taking on that role. Glad you liked the food. Good news, I should have the money tomorrow or Tuesday to buy the rest of the stuff I need to get my Genesis in the air. I've got the Hyde Mount all boxed up and I'm gonna ship it tomorrow. If I don't get back in the air soon I may have to go buy some Gold Bond myself...

RE: Hebert's Shinden

Oh, and although the thirty-aught-jeep made a very effective weapon with plenty of knock-down power, the bullets are expensive as hell.

Lookin' good Brian, hope to see you in Muncie.

Great to hear from you, Chad! By coincidence, I'm wearing my Team Canada shirt right now! My plan is to be in Muncie, got a couple of really good planes, a closet full of fuel waiting to be turned into smoke and noise, and am actually flying pretty good. (I've never been happy with my flying before)

How about you? Still flying Plettenburg?

Hey guys ! I just got back from Euorp and will be back home tomorrow afternoon.
Looks like the weather will be bad again for my day off. If by the off chance i's
good Saturday or Sunday we need to get together and fly at Dixie or Crowley.
I would love to see one of the new Shindens up close.

Really like the looks of the scheme you got, probably better than the other scheme. Thanks for the pictures.

Has anyone put the canopy together yet. If so, how did you do it.

RE: Hebert's Shinden

Hi Billy
find a way to make a jig to hold the canopy base upside down
cut the canopy 5/16 bigger than the base and insert it in the base be carfull not to bend the base
make sure you clean the contact surface,, use r/c 56 or Pacer formula 560 canopy glue
after you insert the canopy in the base run a 2 inch bead on the front and back of the canopy along the edge of the clear canopy
it will creep far enough.
let it dry then hold the canopy on it` side and run a small bead along one side let it reflex to it`s natural state let it dry ,,
then do the other side
after run a small bead of c/a around the entire canopy edge
BTW the clear canopy scatches very easy so be carfull
when it`s finished it`s light and strong
hope this helps
Bryan Hebert
