RE: YS-170CDI Flight Report
ORIGINAL: atul123 ORIGINAL: Jeff Boyd 2 Great points . . The 170CDI would not typically be used in a 'Sport' style airplane (we can spec other sizes and type of engines to perform well in Sport planes with out the expense of a YS170CDI). As Atul mentioned, Giant scale and Pattern (which is really ONLY where you would use a 170CDI) are totally different animals. Only a Giant Scale pattern plane would fly anything like a pattern plane ;). Giant Scale aeros fly great, but they aint no Pattern plane ! We choose our weapons :D Cheers, JB Atul Cheers, JB |

I am electric, but this is very impressing. I love this engine.

Hi Atull
Be carefull to your choice to avoid to be over limit of 5 kg, cdi is a little heavier than normal Yamada 170. I did a mistake about % oil. I saw Steph Carrier's father this morning. He told me there is 6 % oil and not 5 or 7 %. I'm very confused !!! But % nitro is good. It is 20 %. Regards |
RE: YS-170CDI Flight Report
The fuel economy is great. I flew an entire contest this weekend which included two warm up flights Friday (consisting of 2 seqences each plus a few maneuvers), four P09 rounds yesterday and two P09 rounds today on one half gallon of fuel.
I'm running a mixture of 3/4 Cool Power 30% nitro 5% oil, and 1/4 of 20% nitro heli fuel. There were many positive comments about the engine this weekend- presentation against the cool blue sky with little or no oil trail, power, smoothness and consistence- and easy starting each round. All the best, Don |

Hi all,
very interesting result for 170 cdi ! Does anybody know where can I order this engine with the ignition system? Best regards |

ORIGINAL: preatorian Hi all, very interesting result for 170 cdi ! Does anybody know where can I order this engine with the ignition system? Best regards The factory told a friend of mine that the best thing to do is place an advance order with a hobby shop in Japan. Most hobby shops there do not need any advance payment but are taking orders. Trouble is, you need someone that speaks Japanese - either yourself or a friend, etc. I've placed my order already :D Atul |
RE: YS-170CDI Flight Report
Yes about 9 percent oil, and I run it rich. The engine smokes some on takeoff after its idled for a while but in the air its really not noticeable.
Regards, Don |
RE: YS-170CDI Flight Report
ORIGINAL: MTK So that's around 9% oil, correct Don? And around 27.5% nitro MattK My experience with YS engines told me that they transitioned better on higher nitro content but with ignition this is usually not so critical. So why the high nitro content? There's certainly not any saving on fuel cost. CR |

Has anyone tested YS with mueller-modellbau-technik electronic ignition?

You can never have enough power<g> From what I've seen they run smoother and burn less fuel than the standard glow version. Then again, I fly electric<g> |

Charly, look at this http://www.justengines.unseen.org/ac...s.html#aJW2014 I used it to convert 110s. Runs great on 5% nitrro, smooth transition, some fuel economy. & a price is not so bad! Rostislav |
RE: YS-170CDI Flight Report
Slava, that is great. I assume the power is similar as well? The switch to 5% is reason enough to try that. Did you just drill a hole in the hub for the sensor magnet?
Charley, CH Ignitions has been converting glow engines for over 20 years, and they have a good conversion ignition that is much less expensive. |
RE: YS-170CDI Flight Report
Terry
The power is similar to when I was running 15% glow, & some what less than 35% I run latelly. Hub is just big enogh to take 3mm magnet , mounted sensor with a plastik tierap holds good , & I can adjust timing. Rostislav |
RE: YS-170CDI Flight Report
That sounds great. As long as the tie wrap doesn't allow the sensor to slip you should be OK. I was thinking of converting a YS 1.20 I have but was unsure how to secure the sensor, and don't want to mount an internal magnet as in the 1.70 conversion.

RE: YS-170CDI Flight Report
What is the maximum percentage of nitro that can handle the cdi plug?
|
RE: YS-170CDI Flight Report
When I just did my convertion I run 35% nitro for couple flights to see if I lost power .
Didn't affected plug any how ,nitro % shouldn't be a problem |

RE: YS-170CDI Flight Report
I didn't try FAI fuel, just 5%. I wouldve but don't have it avail.
On 5% it was turning 15x8 at 9300rpm. & 16x8 at 9500 on 35% |

RE: YS-170CDI Flight Report
200 RPM on a larger prop if you read above. That is quite a large difference..
