I sold my DX-7, and bought an Aurora A9, with the Jumbotron touch screen with throw the manual away programming, and all of the telemetry features to me is the best buy for the buck...period. A truly great radio IMHO. But what do I know, I just work for NASA...

I have a Futaba 14MZ and a JR 9503. The 14MZ was sentin for service at 4 years and 9 months and was returned no charge covered by warranty. The 9503 was purchased in September of 2010 and as of february 2011 it will cost $75 just to upgrade it to DSMX.

What i'm saying is hands down buy Futaba.

Nothing you have just said would compel anyone to buy one radio over the other.

One was sent for "service" and the other is an "upgrade". The word service tells me something needed to be repaired, the upgrade isn't required. One is over $2,000. and the other is in the mid $500 range.

I don't think this was a fair comparison of why someone should buy one over the other.... just sayin.

BTW: The 14mz is a really nice radio!

Which radio is better built? Which one have betters parts ,wires,conections.....

I bought a 8 Ch. radio last year and is working just fine so far , but I have not peace of mind knowing that this radio is built like a $50 toy.

I am looking for a decent 6 Ch. radio. Do I have to buy a 10 Ch. radio to get What I need.

Thanks

You haven't really defined what your needs are.
What kind of aircraft do you intend to fly? Are you just into Sport aircraft or are you interested in Scale or Aerobatic? Are you planning to fly Helicopters?
How much did you want to spend?

The Hitec Aurora 9 is a great radio for $350. The Futaba 8FG and the Spektrum DX8 are also excellent choices, but a little more expensive. The Hitec Optic 6 or the Spektrum DX6i are great 6ch options. You can also look at the Airtronics radios.

I am just into Sport aircraft and the decision of a new radio have to be based on reliability only. I prefer 2.4. and 6 Ch. Is all what I need.

Today is much harder pick up a new radio than 20 years ago, at that time , a 7 Ch. radio was a piece of equipment, you could feel the quality in yours hands. Today I do not know any more.

Like I said, I ended up with 8 Ch. radio which I feel is perfect for foamies , small helicopters , electrics etc.
But I do not feel confident using it on larger airplanes (.90 to 1.20).

i'd avoid anything that might put me in the path of horizon hobby's customer service!! they can be first non-responsive and then, later, rude as hell. so no more spektrum for me!i'd cross spektrum off the list for this reason alone. also some people think there is a basic problem with spektrum's radio system. who knows? conversely, however, futaba has great service and a clear reputation.

Wow, this is exactly the opposite of anything my father or I have ever encountered from horizon. I have found their service dept. to be the best I've ever dealt with by far.

Instead of looking at window dressing: Here's an idea - buy the radio brandthat has historically downed the least amount of planes via lost signal.

to be completely thorough, you would buy the one that has downed the least aircraft per radio sold.

My LHS has said that one brand is outselling the others by about 10:1 in their shop..

Per radio sold basis - on 2.4 ?
Not even a race
Look into how many 2.4 systems ar e sold for ALL sizes rc model s
The yammering about Spektrum and losses (on the forums) started when the first Spektrums hit the market -
From a success standpoint - they far overshadow the rest of the brands
The other 2.4 brands work well also - no question about that -
Just not as many of em- 10-1 - not in our area - the ratio is far higher than that

Horizon Service ?? How did you getit ? I'm still waiting for major parts missing from the plane I got in November. They finally promised me they would ship the parts in late January and I'm still waiting. My new plane has yet to be used. Without it's tailand canopy it wont fly too well.

There is no one that has accurate statistics on that parameter. It is a waste of time starting a Pi**ing Contest on radio brands.

It is the look and feel and the programming that is important to most pilots as well as the warranty and service. We all have our own preferences.

Horizon Service ?? How did you get it ? I'm still waiting for major parts missing from the plane I got in November.

I for one have had excellent service from Horizon. I also think if you polled a large number of Horizon service users it would be a very high percentage of very delighted customers. Sorry to hear about your problems but I'm certain you are in the minority.

Maybe your parts are backordered from their supplier? I'm in sales and service in another industry and sometimes we are handcuffed by our suppliers.

Best of luck getting it done.

And that is the one that will be on your store shelves in the very near future.... [8D]

Thus far my OLD 9303 works fine.

THe 14 MZ was upgraded. $160 in parts and sent back with a new battery. The point was the Futaba was five years old and JR will not upgrade the 9503 that was just five months old.

As far as your opinion of what my statement means to anyone. That is your opinion only and doesen't mean anything either.
