RE: Official Smartech Thread
Hey Guys,
I just got a smartech 10145a from a friend. Does anyone know where I can get a manual for the car.
Also I relized that the car dosen't have a Crystal Chip. Where can I get a Reciever crystal. Are they only for the company or can I get any set?
Thanks in Advance

RE: Official Smartech Thread
Ok I wouldn't ask you guys if I hadn't read the forums and believe me I read the forums. First Off I bought a smartech clone, the infamous ebay car. Of course most of the car needed upgrading. The stock carb would not hold a tune to save it's life, so I bought a new one, now everyone on here says "get a os10e" but i could find one cheap enough so i bought a traxxas pro .15 carb instead, fits up well seals up well but my only concern is that the hole in the actual slide itself is almost 2 millimeters bigger than the stock carb. i've taked to a few other folks and got mixed advice, some say more are means more speed, other say more air means less fuel which means less speed. So you guys seem to know you're stuff let me know, if you need measurements on the carbs lemme know. thanks in advance.
p.s. if anyone else reading this bought the ebay car, rip out the servos and reciever, throw away you're radio and buy the cheaper stuff you can find, you'll crap your pants when you see the difference.

1st off, welcome to the group, and thanks for taking the time to do research and looking to see if your question had been answered before.
Now take this advice from an automotive guy (and Mechanical Engineer): the more air you can get into an engine the better. This is usually done by either forced induction (say turbo or supercharger) or opening up the intake system (like getting a larger carb). Less restriction in the intake and exhaust yields more torque and horsepower. However, opening up the intake (getting a larger carb) that lets in more air means you need more fuel, so the fuel mileage will go down, but in my opinion thats a fair trade off for the power increases.
No harm will come from your larger carb (just be sure it is tuned properly), and if anything with a high flow air filter (like a K&N on a car) you'll be getting better performance than stock, so good buy (even if it was a happy accident)!!!!

no problem, and thats the most interesting air filter set-up I have seen!!!!![X(][X(]
But again, you've got the right idea (another happy accident?), as colder air is more dense, so moving the air inlet farther away from the hot engine will also make more power.

The OS 10e's barrel is larger than the stock carb as well so I don't expect you'll find too much to worry you. The worst that you could do if you go to too large a carb is to end up reducing the vacuum. That will slow down the air entering the intake and therefore you'll get less fuel draw and it'll be a bear to tune. I've done that before.

Now, i'm having heat issues. Could it be the air intake. It over heats sitting at idle no matter how rich i run it. I've checked throughly for air leaks. I've read about the water test, if it boils away in so many seconds you're running too hot but I've heard conflicting views on where to dab the water. some said directly to the crankcase and others said directly to the heatsink. I've been putting it on the crankcase. thanks in advance (again).

Contact your LHS(local hobby shop) and describe your problem to them. Is your idle speed set to high? try lowering it and see what happens. If its good most likely running a different glow plug will solve your problem (as they come in different heat ranges like automotive spark plugs do). If that doesn't help you can try running a different % nitro fuel [i'd try running less nitro 1st unless you are already running the lowest.] Also, if you are running with the shell on (which should always be done for added protection) make sure you have cut vent holes in the windows to keep the temps down. Hope that gives you some direction.

This question was asked a few weeks ago. Do some research please. Look back in this thread, say start around page 25, and start reading, you will find most answers to all your questions. As for racing the Smartech, I would only do so if you want to get laughed at by other racers. (aka it's good for fun, no racing) If someone wishs to say otherwise, please do so.[sm=idea.gif]

Again, thanks for all the advice. I just wasn't balancing the needles correctly. Sometimes I get pissed and just wanna rush through it before I smash it to bits but I took a breather and came back and realized I was only turning the low speed needle. But I learned my lesson and I bought a temp gauge, the little venom one that gives you temps while you're running. I came into the hobby ill prepared but I'm slowly learning.
