Default help meeee! what crawler

in the DISTANT future :-( i hope to be buying a rock crawler. i want something that will scale some tough terrain, and make it through mud and such, my question is what crawler should i get. i want something that i can do scale projects like trailers, plows, and things of this nature on, so not the style of something like a losi comp crawler, nut i also want it to crawl really well. i want your opinions, and advice. thanks!!!

you want the best of both worlds dont you!
there are scale rigs, and crawler rigs. a scale rig is much more porportioned, and thus is more limited as to what it can crawl over.

the axial SCX is a great scale rig. it can still drive through mud, over small rocks ect.
the axial ax10 has a semi scale body, but is a better crawler. i think both of the axials run $230-$250 ready to run
the redcat rs10 XT is a great "low budget" crawler. i put a better looking body on mine. but its not a scale looking truck. but it can crawl over alot and only costs $170 ready to run with battery and charger.

I would go with either the Axial AX10 rock crawler or the Axial SCX10 scale truck. There are alot of after market parts support for both trucks. Also I would stay away from the cheap trucks because you get what you pay for...

Probably the best all round scale/crawler is the Tamiya high lift. It has looks, speed, power, and a go anywhere attitude. I curse any one who does it but you can get four link kits for the high lift which can really improve its crawling capability but the leaf springs offer a lot more over all.

thanks guys, all really helpful. im gonna really look into the axial scx10. it looks nice and looks like it has a lot of upgradeability. does anyone know what kind of truck bodies can go on it? and thanks ReaperGN, i did look at tamiya a little while ago, but i hesitate to get one because i see a lot less of them around, compared to things like axial and losi and such.

the reason you dont see a ton of those tamiyas is because they cost a arm and a leg! they are wicked nice looking tho.
whatever truck you look into buying, look up youtube vids. that way you will have a good idea of the capabilties of the trucks themselves, as well as seeing what kinda mod people have done to them.

If you can afford one you should get it. For what you said you want the high lift chassis is almost perfect.

I was lucky and got mine used and RTR for 400. At that price I couldn't go wrong with a high lift. They are expensive but look at what it comes with. It comes stock with steel drive shafts, aluminum shocks, steel chassis, straight axles with massive diffs, lockable diffs, aluminum skid, amazing body, and a rock solid trans that offers three gear ratios. I run a 19T triple and can pull 120 pounds on smooth tile. On cement I should get close to 180 if the tires don't rip. I have also stacked 30 6 cell packs on the rear and it held them with out a problem. And even though it has a stiff suspension it will climb at amazing angles. Now its center of gravity limits what you can do driving sideways but going straight it has no problems. If you have a good motor, 2 servos, and esc you can get a high lift for about 400-450 depending on the store.

And I forgot, you also need to already have at least a 3 channel radio. A dual stick 4+ channel is preferred.

the scx 10 is fully upgradeable into whatever you want, or as budget allows. all ax-10 upgrades fit.

I found this on ebay. Its 250 with a 275 buy out. It says it has full ball bearings which would set you back at least a 100, aftermarket tires, and led lights installed. With some Looking I could find the needed parts for about 150. The best part is its pre built.
