Does the wingon the rudder move the stern lower or higher in the water?

from what i gather the wing is set at a neutral angle but as its like an upside down plane wing it creates a bit of drag and stops the boat from wanting to tip forward and tipping over.andy wright told me they are a good idea and will help a lot.if the ghost train does have that problem id deffinately look at adding one .you could even build new floats with more volume in the bows i guess to sort that problem out if its needed.you probably wont know till you sail her but its an idea you could try if needed.!!that guy i told you about who had the nightmare raced his against some iom mono hulls and his 10R which was 1,1/2 times faster than the iom,s and said it was 2 times if not 3 times as fast as the 10R,so fast none of the other guys would sail it as they were scared of it.check this link out especially the reply by hoj!!.[link]http://www.rcsailing.net/forum1/showthread.php?t=2920&highlight=sterne+viper[/link]

To be honest, I think it would be quite fun if it pitchpoles. It will have masthead boyancy, watertight hatches, and where I sail, the winds are always onshore, and it is a small lake. I have an electric rc speedboat which is great at rescueing.

i cant see a small electric speed boat pushing one of these in to be honest,i hope mine doesnt pitchpole too many times lol the lake i sail on is large, fleetwood lake. in fact the club lake is the largest boating lake in europe,they held the marblehead world champs there this year too.i tend to sail in the much bigger lake on the other side of a bridge deviding the two lakes.keeps me out of the way of the old fellas lol.cant wait to see theyre faces when i get this thing built though ,most of them sail either marble heads iom,s or a lazer type boat called the mustang which is the club design(forerunner to the lazer im told).oh and they have a lot of large schooners in the boat house they sail on wednsdays too.heres a link to the website[link]http://www.fleetwoodmypbc.org.uk/index.htm[/link]by the way where i sail is salt water and right by the sea although there is a large bank between the sea and the lake it can still blow a bit when it wants to so it could get interesting .

Well, the lake I sail on is tiny, and my electric boat got my IOM (full of water) in by pulling out some fishing line, then circling it so it got tied on.

Hi i have seen that boat on the site you linked before it seems a bit of a cheak to me if they are making the plans available without letting people know who designed the boat.It looks like a nice boat mate if a bit big for my car lol ,how long ago did you design that one?.i notice she has fins on all 3 hulls and rudders too?or are they fins at the stern on the floats?.

Ernst the pics are great thanks very much how do you work out how to get the shape from a solid peice of foam?ive only ever done it by glueing blocks to the frames and sanding to the frames.id appreciate it if you could explain how its done it looks complicated lots of measuring and such like?,the plans i have are this boat arent they? .

Hi guys,I have been reading with interest your ideas on multihulls.I have been working with my mate on a 1 Metre tri for a few years,not to design them, but to try and iron out the problems like tacking pitchpoling etc.We have reached a stage where we have a fairly stable hull that is very difficult to capsize.We are at the moment looking at the sails and rigs.We are suprised at what we have found.Hi guys,I have been reading with interest your ideas on multi-hulls.I have been working with my mate on a 1 Metre tri for a few years,not to design them, but to try and iron out the problems like tacking pitch-poling etc.We have reached a stage where we have a fairly stable hull that is very difficult to capsize.We are at the moment looking at the sails and rigs.We are surprised at what we have found.
The out riggers are on independant suspension,it lets the outrigger sit level in the water and adjust to waves.the rigs are also swing rigs and are of the flexy rig type that allow gusts to be depowered and then the sails reset to the desired settings.I have posted a couple of photos of my boat as it was in 2005.As it is a model we did not look for answers in the real world of full size,but took a long hard look at the problem and then found ways of dealing with it.All I can say is I am glad it is just a model.Have you looked at a site www.apolloboatservices.co.uk ?Happy New Year to you all,hope to hear from you some time to talk about Multihulls in general.

it looks like you just modified a one metre yacht is that right?.if so it will not sail as a true tri does i wouldnt have thought as they dont have the volume in the bows that the tri hulls do.also the floats look a bit thin in the pics .how does she sail? also if they are on independent suspension how does it allow the boat to sail on one float?im not picking fault just expressing my opinion id be interested to hear more about your boat.do you have a video of her sailing.i have also seen that site before are you connected to it in any way.its good to hear from a fellow brit who likes tris im starting mine in the spring so should be in the water by summer all been well.id start her now but have a gas boat to build for my son first!!.
by the way lets hope the mighty whites have a better new year starting today we could do with the points .
