Thanks Ernst

I would be making moulds only to make it easier to play with using different materials, certainly not to go into any kind of production. This does make a little sense when you need to make two identical floats, versus building them up with a reusable set of templates. I look forward to geeting the nightmare plans.

Coordinate set for the mainhull:

„Nightmare Mk. VII“ coordinates for the main hull – view from top:

To be done in the same way as the floats.
Numbers given below are half of hullwidth (66mm x 2=132mm)
As the hull has vertical sides, the numbers given below are identical with the radiusses of the underwater section of the hull.

0 - 46,000 mm
1 - 52,666 mm
2 - 58,000 mm
3 - 62,000 mm
4 - 64,666 mm
5 - 66,000 mm

11-46,000 mm
12-38,000 mm
13-28,666 mm
14-18,000 mm
15- 6,000 mm

+ 20 mm for the bowbumper
__________________________________________________ __________________

„Nightmare Mk.VII“ – coordinate set, View from side:

At the stern the mainull is 81,5 mm high, each following cross section goes up 2,00 mm.
Freeboard at the bow is therefore 111,5.
Together with the 16,5 mm, with which the bow remains below CWL,
we achieve the same bowheight of 128 mm overall, as the float have.
So actually the Decks of the floats theoretically are placed 18.5 mm higher then the deck of the mainhull, but for the prototype we choose 30mm to have the floats at rest higher above CWL. This makes tacking easier in light winds.

Keel rocker line:
All following dimensions are – (Minus), as they are below CWL.

0 - 00,000 mm
1 - 15,000 mm
2 - 27,500 mm
3 - 37,500 mm
4 - 45,000 mm
5 - 50,000 mm
6 - 52,500 mm

Ernst,

China has decided to sign-up!

Just want it noted that this is one design that China will not be copying 100% from the West!

PRUAHAHAHA - Hello again, Red!

I didn`t expect you to copy my design a 100%.
People who are interested in Multihull-Design normally have to much of an individualistic attitude to just "copy".

I just wanted all of us to overcome the stoneaged "Ghost Train"-Design with all its shortscuts,
so I had to provide at least one FREE set of plans/coordinates, which are proofen to work well. - This is achieved by now!

Ì´m also working continuosly on new designaspects - your wavepiercing bow for example is really inspiring me.

And there are more persons, who want to start a production BASED on my designs, but have also other detailideas they would like to include - I´m NOT into business with them, as I am an IDEALIST and always will be.

I just would like to see YOUR design sailing (well) - that´s all I want!
(Actually I would like to see a real Mini40-World Championship in 2010 with more then 50 boats from all over the world! -
Isn´t this a dream, everybody can agree with?)

Fair winds, my friend!

HEY Ernst,

that's cool - China is synonymous with copying stuff 100% - I didn't want other members to think that there was some factory out here about to rip off all your and their hard development work.

I've been a bit quiet on the development side of things - needing to go sourcing for components. I'm in Hong Kong over Christmas and am told that there are hobby markets where I might be able to score some components. Thinking that a carbon fibre mast and boom set would be pretty cool!

Currently I'm looking at 164g for the three hulls and internal ribbing. I think I'm going to come in well under the 3kg total mark... thought might have to eat my words later!

Regards,

Red

I started building my trimaran based off of my plans. Main hull mold is started, have lots of sanding to do. Here are some pics of the main hull

Dear Ian,
in your webshots gallery I noticed that it´s back from 2004 already.
So I would like to ask you two things:
1) The 2 meter Carbon-mainhull looks very good - have you made floats for it as well and did you sail that boat?
2) In these pics the "Nighmare Mk. III Superslim" is still not completed - have you achieved this in between?

Thank you very much,
Ernst

The only 2m tri that I have in a picture is not mine. Actually, I don't know where that came from. The Nightmare Slim has seen progress since that picture but has not sailed yet. Im really looking for a good source of rigs. I might go back to sailsetc since they did a good job the last time. I was hoping for a sail that looks a bit more multihullish if you know what I mean. something with just a hint of a square top.

My concept of free trimaran selfbuilding plans for everyone is really getting international by now!
Only over the last weekend 4 plans where sent on request to South Africa, Canada, Uk and Australia.

I wonder if we can achieve 100 (one hundred!) selfbuilt Mini40 trimarans untill the world championships in 2010?
And I don´t really care, if my own designs are used - or a design of anybody else.
These boats need to be sailed to experience the speed thrill!

@Ian Sammis
Buddy, get your boats completed - we need your "Nightmares" sailing as well.

Dear Doug,
just like you several of the 44 persons by now, who asked for copies of the "Nightmare Mk.VII" couldn´t believe these plans are really for FREE! - But they are!
(Actually these are TWO versions of this Trimaran - with round bottom and a flat section bottom hulls with rounded corners -
My carbonfibre-prototype has been built with semicircular underwatershells - TBK is building the other version now.
His building log is here: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_8356590/tm.htm)
The German guy, who made them for me to my specifications agreed to my intention of NO COPYRIGHTed plans.
Each person who allready received the plans, has also my unlimited permission to copy and distribute them to any other prospect - no matter how often - but also FOR FREE!
I just want the Mini40 class to expand - and this is the only proper way to do it.

"Experience cannot be replaced by something else!" - If you want to know it, you got to experience it!

This is the reason why these plans are for free and always will be.
Just send your request to me: [email protected]
and you will receive your copy within one or two days.

I have always wanted a tri but the cost of buying one put me off. Maybe building one is the go. I have emailed my plan request.

Dear Grant,
just as promised, your copies of plans have been sent to you!

And the 46th request even reached me from New Zealand:

"Hello Idealist,
Would you please send me a set of plans for your 'nightmare' model trimaran.
I am in Whangarei, New Zealand.
Thanks Matt..."

It´s as easy as this -
and it´s a spezial pleasure for me to send a copy of my trimaran plans to New Zealand,
as over the years I have learned a lot from Boatbuilders from there -
and now I got this chance to give something back!

4 more requests needed to reach 50 plans - and then we´re heading for a full 100.
Mini 40 Worldchampionships in 2010 with at least 50 boats is the goal - go for it!

Plans sent - and we reached 53 allready!

If possible, please also tell me where you are located -
as if there are several persons in the same area, it might be possible to coordinate your building activities.

Ernst

Sailed my tri today for the first time. It's not entirely finished, ie, it needs to be sanded one more time and painted, but I just couldnt wait any longer.

Here's a video of it sailing. Was taking video and controlling it at same time. :-)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PfKrulmabX4

and some pics. Last one shows it about to nose dive right before i let the sails out.
