Here is a pic of my pilot bust from my DRI, It is a shame Aces of Iron do not make full body pilots. The details in their pilots are excellent.
I still need to spray Dulcote over the leather jacket once the paints dry.

Absolutely astounding Anthony, especially given the time frame. But I gotta ask. In the first pic what is that little round thing on the black line halfway between the cowl and wing.

Thanks Robert,
That is the simulated carb intake tube. The DRI took just 3 days shy of 2 months from start to finish.

Just looked at the manual for the DVII. It showes all the die cut sheets, ply and balsa. Counted them all up,
came to 80 sheets if I counted right, at $3.00 a sheet, that would come to $240, at that price might as well
buy the whole kit..............

That's how BUSA get you to buy the whole kit, they are not stupid. The people of Balsa USA and others kind of don't like parting out the kits or making seperate parts for other personal projects. Fisher Ultralights dosn't like selling their plans seperate from the kit, and no longer sells the individual parts or kit unless the whole kit is paid for.
It's all about making money, and for Ultralight kits it's about liability and making money.
Here's a few photos of the details I did with my GP Fokker Dr1 including Carb intakes. Most everything was made from scratch including the the guns, flare pistol etc. You did a vey nice job with your DR1 WacoNut!

Thanks Pete, I hope to do a better job on the DVII.
I have been looking for info on the DVII and not been finding what I need. I am looking for a good 3-view that will show what the cross section of the stab/elevators and fin/rudder should be. If anyone has a good 3-view or decent pics of these areas it would be appreciated.
Jtisch, you mentioned the sub wing and struts as being off. I will have to look at these areas to see what needs corrected.
So far my plan is to scratch the tail feathers and cut my own wing ribs. I will most likely order some die cut sheets from Balsa USA for the fuse/cowling.
I am feeling better today so I am heading down to my hobby room to clean up from the DRI build and get ready to tackle the DVII.

Waco, if I was going to build another D7, I would be tempted to build the fuse, and then take foam blocks..carve the cowl out, and fiber glass it. In fact I am sort of surprised nobody sells a glass cowl for it already.

Just a F.Y.I. to all you power tool owners out there I have a number of tools with belts and have found the easiest way to get replacements has been a local Seal and Belt companies. I picked up belts for my Dremel Belt/Disc sander and my Dremel Table saw from a seal company because they are oversized "O" rings. I have picked up other belts from a local industrial beth supply company. Both have been very resonable price wise that I picked up a spare for each. Just take the worn out or broken belt/O ring with you and they do the rest. I just love buying off the shelf!

I wish I was so lucky, my sander has a 1/2 wide cog belt. very short length as well. Seems to be a spcialty item.

I made 2 copies of my plans today and also received my belt for the sander. I will use one set of plans for templates and the other for building over and save the originals.
A buddy of mine called me today and said he had a stray dog hanging around his farm for the last month and he was going to call the dog warden as he was afraid it was going to get run over on the road. He sent me a pic and it was a full blooded Alaskan Malamute. The wife and I went and picked the dog up and took it to the vet and had it scanned for a chip and no luck. She is a very sweet dog and seems to have had some training. We will do our best to find the owner. I already have a 8 month old Malamute and really don't need another.
Anyhow back to the DVII, I hope to gets started cutting wood this week now that I have my sander back in operation.

I just reviewed the plans and did an inventory of my wood stock. I have all the wood needed to build the wings so I will start there.
Hopefully by the weekend I will have the wing kit cut and can start building. Off to start cutting ribs.

I have all the ribs cut except the W-1's and W-2's, I did find something very interesting. The templates for the W-4 and W-5 ribs are marked incorrectly. 4 is 5 and 5 is 4 I will cut the remaining ribs tomorrow night and the scalloped T/E sheeting. Should be able to build a wing this weekend.
With the parts you see on the table I have maybe 4 hrs invested. I forgot how relaxing it is to cut parts.

What engine combination works good for the DVII? I have a DLE-50 that is not being used?

RE: Balsa USA 1/4 scale Fokker DVII from plans
Hi All
I installed a G-38 in mine, swinging a 20x8 prop. In order for the Faux mercedes engine to fit, I had to rotate the head
on the 38 about 10 degrees. It fits nicely and I can reach in to flip on the choke. I have a B&B smoke system.
Waco The DLE-50 will be more than enough, oodles of power.

Thanks for the tips guys,
Sal, that is a nice looking DVII. I will see if I can shoe horn the DLE-50 inside the cowl. I have the ability and resources to manufacture a custom muffler and pipe if need be. I will be patiently waiting for your article on the sprung gear.
I picked up some glue today and a few odds and ends, I should be able to build the bottom wing this weekend.

I have all the shaped parts for the wings cut except the wing tips and the rounded aileron tips. My can of 3M77 spray gave out[:@] I will pick up another can tomorrow and finish up cutting the parts and start framing up the bottom wing. In total about 6 hrs of work in cutting the wing kits. One thing about a kit you cut yourself is the finished parts are much better than a die or laser cut part IMO. Can't wait to see how the wings come out.

I would agree with you Anthony. I have never been 100% satisfied with the fit and finishonmost types of die or laser cut parts. How many times whenfitting a wing rib to a spar have you found that the rib won't even stand-up by itself because of the excessive clearance? Enjoy your build!!!

I also enjoy cutting out a kit, but wing ribs will wear a body out, especially when there's only two of each. I will say the only laser cut kit I have built was from Glen Torrance and the fit and finish of all parts was exceptional.

RE: Balsa USA 1/4 scale Fokker DVII from plans
I need a little help here,
The root rib of each panel is set with a dihedral gauge which is not supplied on the plans. The angle is not specified. I am assuming 2 deg but my assumptions are usually incorrect. The dihedral braces are not included on the plans as well. I am confident I can manufacture these braces with a template but it would really help to know the proper angle of the dihedral to make the braces and the dihedral gauge.
If anyone has the kit and could tell me the angle or scan the gauge it would really help.
Thanks!!
