Staggerwing Beech w/fixed gear
#1
Does anyone know a source of three-views for any of the fixed gear Staggerwings? I'm especially interested in the A17F. I've found some pics, but no drawings.
There is a book called 'Staggerwing' that might, but I can't tell from the ads. Anyone have it?

I called my Dad and he looked in the book "Staggerwing" and there are a couple of three views in there. He also said there are a ton of pictures of it. You might try to contact the Staggerwing Museum in Tullahoma, TN. They have the airplane on display there and they may also have factory drawings, etc.

Jerry, thanks VERY much--I had no idea a fixed gear Staggerwing still existed!
Great suggestion to contact the museum, and since the book has 3-views for the fixed gear version I'll buy a copy.
Kind of you to check it out for me.

Go here to find the 3 view drawings for the 17R Staggerwing, i.e. the first one with the fixed gear : http://staggerwing.com/tech_library/model_17_drawings/ Plus you will find detailed 3 views for the rest of the B, C, D and G17 Staggerwings, plus the UC-43 and the Beech 18 if you like. Very nice info to keep for future use. The ones you download are VERY BIG in size, much bigger than the one shown here, just save it to a folder on your computer. You could take the file to a Kinko's, etc. to print out full size, then you'd really have something nice! Hope this helps.

The Wylam Staggerwing drawings from Air Age (MAN) include 17R and A17F with fixed gear, as well as the later models with retractable gear. A17F has a larger engine and shorter nose than 17R. I don't remember the particulars right now without looking them up. The complete Wylam set is a bit pricey, in my opinion. The Staggerwing Museum at Tullahoma has a reconstruction of 17R, which was crashed back in the 30's. As I understand it, 17R was a one-only prototype. Google will yield a lot of links for Staggerwings.
Here's a picture of the 17R landing gear that I made at Tullahoma a while back.

Those drawings look nice but...They are inaccurate!~
I have been looking for info for my D17S Staggerwing project. I started off with inaccurate plans so I started to work on my own plans. I came across those drawing and thought I hit the jackpot.
After brief study of these drawings, I found inaccuracies. For example; the stringers on the fuselage are not located in the correct position as well as the number of stringers is inaccurate. The drawings show no stringer on the fuselage center line when there should be a stringer and the number of stringers is wrong. Study these and other drawings carefully.
Find photos of the full size Staggerwing and compare.

I agree that the drawings are inaccurate. The picture you posted is very interesting. I have looked at a lot of staggerwing pictures and several staggerwings. I think that Wylam has the fuselage cross sections wrong. The rear fuselage is more oval shaped, as the picture you posted shows clearly. Also, I believe there were changes made between models. The 17R fuselage is narrower than later models, and the "inverted gull" configuration of the lower wing is more pronounced.
The 3-views posted above and the Wylam drawings are the only generally available drawings that I know of. Are there others?
