Was going to put this into the original thread Mike started looking for Tiger Moth plans, but I couldn't find it! I suppose it should go in Giant Scale really, but I think it would be lost amongst the ARTF Caps, Yaks and Extras that are so common in there. It aint a dig either, as I have a 30% Cap 232.
Mike was looking for a quarter scaler, but he has been tempted to go up a scale. This is my effort from the Classic Scale plans, of which Mike has obtained one of the last sets of plans. It is a superb plan, every bracket is scale, the scale sized structure is used throughout, internal cross bracing in the wings etc. It was available as a kit, but it cost about a thousand pounds back in the 90's. I think the original came to your Top Gun event a while back too, campaigned by the designer Fred Beard. The rights to the kit went onto another guy who restores real Tigers, so he had the opportunity redraw a couple of inaccuracies that were in the original, as he had full size parts all around! He was going to re kit it but this never happened. I had some parts off him, along with plans and this is the result up to now.
I did take quite a few pics so if you want to see anything inparticular just yell!

Here are a few more. Span is 111", estimated final weight is to be around the 30lb mark, power is a Z62. All radio is hidden under the scale central control box. The fuel tank is the scale tank. All fittings are from brass sheet, apart from some high stress areas, ie wing spar attachmants etc, are stainless steel, the luggage locker over centre latches work, although the liner for the locker still needs to be made.

Great Ian - thanks for posting these pix, I'm sure they're going to be helpful as my build progresses. At this time the plans etc., from Ian Castle are en route to Canada and I can't wait to get started. I'll build on this thread as things progress.
I currently have a ton of questions but I'll wait to see how many of them can be answered via the plans and manual that are coming. Ian managed to lay his hands on some u/c legs, cowl, wheels, flying wires, and unspecified plastic parts for me, so I guess I'm going to have to find a way to manufacture the metal fittings, silencer, prop extension, tank etc., etc. It should be interesting!
You don't by any chance have a contact for Fred Beard - I'd love to get some of his documentation photographs.
Watch this space...

Very nice airplane but you must be joking about the Z62?
I have flown a 3rd scale Tiger using the Toni Clark Z38 and reduction drive swinging a 34(ish) inch prop.
Simply superb, nothing I've ever seen or heard has been more scale than that combo.
Even on the ground, idling in the mid 100s rpm the sound made the hair on you neck stand-up... just prop noise.
Loads of power to... then again, maybe not as much as the 62!
Congratulations anyway... you've sure built a pretty airplane.

Bla Bla, I do agree that the sight and sound of a gear reduction is superb, as I have a DH2 pusher that has a Z62 and a belt reducer on it, which turns a scale prop (30in diameter) at 3500 rpm. The DH2 is Third scale and 113" span. I have seen the Toni Clark reducer, and was going to fit one to the Tiger, but the unit doesn't fit completely in the cowl, it pokes out of the bottom which is a shame but out of the question. Perhaps there is a different unit available from him? The Z62 will sound great in this though, as it will be propped with a scale diameter prop, keeping the revs down, and it will fly at much less than half throttle, keeping the exhaust note down. Also, the exhaust is a large capacity, baffled, thick walled aluminium job which also is the engine mount itself. I do have to make a longer propdriver for the Z62 though, but it is worth it to keep it in cowl.

BTW, the newest issue of the Germany RC magazine FMT ("Flugmodelltechnik") has a story on a stunning 1/3 scale BĂĽcker 133 which is built just as scale (if not even more so since it has a welded steel tube frame). In fact, it looks almost the same in the barebones as this stunning Tiger Moth.

Hi Alonso, este Tiger Moth tiene una escala de plenamente U/C, doble brotado y amortiguamiento. La mala noticia es que está construida de dibujos y está construida de listo no está disponible.
Hi Alonso, this Tiger Moth has a fully scale U/C, double sprung and damped. The bad news is that it is built from drawings and is not available ready built.
This model is now finished and flying, finished in the G-ACDJ colours I'd originally planned, but stalled on since the demise of the full size and its two occupants, Mike Teather and a family friend. A freind now owns the model and I think its a fitting tribute to a beautiful Tiger and a good man. RIP Mike.
Ian.
The excellent pics are the work of that Neil Hutchinson bloke, all in the camera though, no talent on his part, not a bit, honest!!!
