My p-38!!!!!
Hang on boys, she's a slidin' downhill again.
The good new is...once we hit the bottom, there's nowhere to go but up.
I'm going to try and speed things up.

love the hang on she's sliding downhill again comment. we really won't hit the bottom until the army green cub with no cowling, muffler showing, placed next to a fence photo reappears.

Here's my contribution to try to bring the thread down to a lowest conceivable standard.

Wicked!
At last some real class stuff.
Check out that wild delivery box that Russian are using to supply their airforce with complete airframes!
Man, they've got the logistics seriously worked out.
Military establishment around the world can learn from that I'm sure.

Here's one posted over at The Aerodrome that I thought was really nice:

Greetings from Finland
In Norway there is just now going on European Championships with scale models.

Your criteria about pictures are so high that I do not dare to propose any pictures, but check by yourself. There should be some fullfilling your demands.

It blows me away that there may be dozens of models at the European Championship which can compete (and even beat) Pete McDermott's Snipe, which is to my mind the most perfect scale model that ever has or ever could exist.

Okay - let me take a shot at getting us back on track - photos from the Ohio Dawn Patrol0 2009. This is actually a tough venue for this thread - the background trees make it a very picturesque flying site, fun for the pilots, but really tough on the photographers!

An Airco DH-1a two-seater pusher:
And a really good flying Caproni CA60:
Tried to take as many photos as I could that captured true scale modelling - looking forward to August and the Hoosier Dawn Patrol, which is a whole bunch easier to shoot for scale photos!!
Very best regards,

So great, it just makes me sick! I sure wish I could attend these sorts of events. [] I've take the (perhaps unwelcome) liberty to clean up this spectacular shot a bit in photoshop (levels, shadow/highlight, color). Looks better on my monitor but YMMV. Great model, great skies, great photograph. A perfect combination.

Uh... that is the standard for this thread, and has been since the beginning. Unfortunately, things go astray from time to time...

No problems with cleaning up the photos, Don - I haven't had the time since the event to do much more than sort through the photos, and get the better shots uploaded. I'll be posting a bunch more on the ODP thread this weekend. ANY time a photo gets a little TLC in photoshop that helps is fine with me, and doesn't at all defeat the purpose of this thread, IMHO.
It definitely makes a difference being at an event that attracts the right kinds of machines to photograph - the first third of the needs for this thread. The weather and the site are equally important - we were very fortunate at ODP this year with the weather (wait til you see some of those photos! ).
The trickiest part many times is trying to catch the right "pose" - showing the plane at it's best angle, while discretely hiding things that give the illusion away. We were again fortunate at ODP to have a good number of pilots who flew their planes very realistically.
And yes, the mantra "Is it real, or a model" is the minimum standard we should all be targeting, with the ultimate being "No way is THAT one a model"!!!
Very best regards,
Lee McDuffee

RE: Best scale photo!
A lot of nice shots here! I would like to add a couple of my composed shots. The first is a friend of mine, Brian Dean's 1/3 Morane Saulnier along with his Fokker Dr1. The second is my 1/6th Fokker E-3 chasing a 1/4 scale Nieuport 28. Dave Dean (Brian's borther) owns the N28. All aircraft are Balsa USA.
