Yes sir, 1977 to 1980 Yz 125 and Xr 185. I still ride but not like I did then. I by a vintage bike once a year and make it like new, ride it a bit and let it go. Building and flying planes does not hurt as bad.

I built this Baron from scratch from Royal Plans around 1991. It weight about 13 lbs and had two Fox 40's for power, and featured spring air retracts. The scale judges really liked the sight of the wheel doors closing as she lifted off the runway.

Moto-X, I welcome conversation, particularly on vintage motocross bikes...Maico I like. PM me if you want, and I apologize for getting off topic here to others! I still have my '86 YZ 250 (low hours).

To Boeing 314, I love that model! That Baron is super!!! I guess I understand why civilian planes aren't that popular(for modelers), but I fly those! I know what it is like to do pre-flight on 'em in cold weather at night in Colorado..and rap your knuckle on the altimeter in freezing weather before taking to the sky! Airplanes are cool!

Thanks Reaper Grim! The Royal Stang actually has pretty good proportions I see. Nice to see pics of actual people..ha ha. We should all add that personal touch. I will try to add a picture of me in my "Dossier" on this site so people know what I look like. I encourage all to do the same. It would be nice if more people would flesh-out their "dossier" as such, no risk as I see it (and I started a blog too but not many seem to utilize that feature). -Eric p.s. Reaper Grim I found your canopy for the Zero to be of sound quality, if you didn't get my e-mail. Thanks!

Hi Stick08, I think we all appreciate pictures here. Hmmm..your plane looks familiar to me! I am trying to figure out what to do on paint for my replacement canopy that I received recently (trying to match the old r/s Perfect gray on the airframe). I need to duplicate the sliding rails for the canopy, as on the old one (got lost somehow). I also need to go to the art store to get some chalk for weathering a bit. I might just use Modelmaster paint and find a good flat fuelproof clearcoat (ideas anyone). [to all: I reference my Zero pics at the top of thread]

Hi Rambro, glad you pop in! Have you enlarged your "International Air Force of Giants"?

hey Riddle,I am on here all the time. Just wish I had something to add. I have been detailing the Skyraider and the Me-262. Yes, I added 3 more planes to the fleet....30 now and all set-up in the basement. I don't know what is wrong with me. I bought 3 to get 1. Makes since right? Here is something I think you ca appreciate. There is a guy who is selling cockpit panels made to scale for any plane you may have. I bought 3 of his panels and they are great. They are lazer cut and I added some epoxy to the gauge faces for some added realism. Check him out [email protected] . $15 isn't bad. Iwill postpics if interested later on. How is your collection going? Wanna buy a few? Iam considering selling my 2 Royal kits. The oyal P6e Hawk and the Large scale Corsair.

Rambro, if I had more money I can think of several of your planes or projects I would buy! Yep, you got the disease..ha ha! I think you should sell some off and get into a nice builder project (no foam wings and fiberglass premolded whatchamaever)! I am going to build a nice 1/6th Corsair from Royal plans. It will be fun, and I'll follow through. Just bought some documentation and am in the planning stage. I already got the gear going with a third party, and like "Rwright" I am going to work on the detail first (cockpit, gear, e.t.c.). I am planning on the Brit V-twin 300 4-stroke (costly). I think I'm leaning towards the original F4-U1. I need to get plans soon so I can annotate them for my specific modifications. I will try to compete this plane, but know it will be difficult against the WAY more experienced. It should be fun though. Thats why we do this!

Rambro, I thought of something. My father wasn't the best either, but he tried to impress on me the importance of finishing a project. So, I am working on that first (i'm pretty close). Don't spread yourself too thin; you'll never get anything done. I'm talking about me, but that may be of help to you.

Thanks for the input stick08. It will be a bit of time for me to have notable improvements to my old Zeke. I'm trying to get another younger gun in the air for the spring; namely my 1/7th TF P-51 (I guess now I must preface that it is the kit with a few improvements). Who would have thought a few years ago, that someone would be bragging that a model was from a kit (as opposed to an ARF)!! It used to be that you were looked down upon for building from a kit instead of building from plans, or designing your own from a 3-view. New people will be calling these ARF's.. kits ..soon, watch! In ten more years, people will talk of having to mount their own engines and radios in the model, and say they were "old school"! Okay, now what was my point..I think my Dremel just put some shrapnel in my frontal lobe.

As an addition: sorry to get off topic with the ARF rant. I am not completely opposed (as can be seen on my blog here). I must have just read through a recent magazine and gotten in a foul mood[sm=lol.gif] Hope I didn't offend anyone here. I guess I am one of those who takes pride bringing something I built to the field, and flying it. I also hate to see people missing out on that satisfaction themselves. So back to this forest of balsa known as a Royal kit!

If all goes well (after the freeze) I will take pics of the high spots of my Oscar. I made a new wing from Foam with rounded leading edges, including the Wheel Cuffs. All the Stab parts are finished and Rudder is covered with Silk. The most obvious location is to take a pic of the L/G location and the method to keep it as close to the L/E as possible. Remember there is no L/E spar, only sheet wrapping of the L/E....This got dicey at the wheel cuffs. I have decided how to construct the Fuse and it will be different but lighter. Pardon my absence but I have been cutting foam for a build on another site (OV-1 Mohawk) and its very interesting. Hopefully I will have the Oscar Wing pics with retracts installed. Remember also I ditched the original wing setup for a more flyable arrangement.
Later !!!!

I thnk the balsa wrapped L/E with the Landing gear cuffs, and also the Retract placement would be interesting. Its light for sure.

If anyone would be interested in the Cad drawing Template I used for the Oscar mod, I would be happy to send it via email. If it proves out as I anticipate I could make Wing Cores available.....Now if the temperatures would abate and get warmer, progress could speed ahead. I am convinced that coring out the fuse is the best way to go and skinning the exterior with 2 oz Glass cloth with epoxy will yield a reasonably overall weight.

Does anyone have accurate full building size templates for the Royal/Marutaka 1/5 scale Bird Dog kit
(not blowups of parts diagram sheets)?

Great, Clocknut! You can fix the clock in my Zero; it doesn't seem to turn (or any of the other gauges for some reason). I'm sure you have gained some skills that help with model stuff. Let us all know when you make strides with the P-38. p.s. maybe it is only the clock that is inop, the Zero seems to be a bit of a hangar queen and no chance to budge the airspeed needle!

Kinda hard to tell from the pics. only the last Marataka kits had ABS parts for the radiators and turbos- I beleve. that one looks all balsa. nice job on the radiators!
The Royal kit had the nose wheel too far forward!! If you want it scale, make a new bulkhead about 1/2"-3/4" back of the original and mount the nose gear to that. angle forward if you are really a scale nut![&:]
