Hey All,
I have Royal P51 kit that I bought back in the mid 1980's. It has a 64.75" wingspan and calls for a .60 to .90 engine, I think it is a <span style="font-weight: bold">MTK-009 NORTH AMERICAN P-51D MUSTANG 1: 6.85 WS 1644mm 47,3 dm 3,6 - 4kg .60 5-6 ch. The kit appears complete and has the plans for the wing but is missing page 1, the fuse plans. Does anyone know where I might get the missing plans for this kit, and if not, is there any interest in a kit like this without some of the plans. I would probably let it go for a reasonable price.
Thanks, Ron</span><br style="font-weight: bold" />

This is a great flying plane should you decide to build it. Below is a link to a pretty good, very informative thread on the Royal/Marutaka kits, full of tips and info and members who are passionate about the Royal kits as well.

PS just saw your location...it's funny, I bought this kit, Royal P-51 Sr, and a Goldberg Sr Falcon at a hobby shop on Montgomery when I lived there in the early 80's. Falcon is long gone and I shelved the 'Stang for 25years mid build. Picked it up again last year and just recently finished it.

Hey Frets24,
Now that's a very nice P51, great detail and pilot, is it a ROYAL KIT?
Thanks for the linkvery informative and lots of great planesseems like good group too.
I've never built a warpalne beforemostly glider snd FF stuffso I don't know if I'm going to try building it or just sell it to someone that could do it justice.

scale only 4 me,
I built the sister ship to the HOB 1/2A mustang- the 1/2A ME109. It made a spectacular "arrival" one day and is no more[X(]. Did the plans that came with the p51 have the me109 plans on the reverse side? Both kits had the exact same contents except for the decal sheet and the box art was obviously different. Nice little flyers, real hot-rod with a .15 up front! Abit too tedious to detail that scale for me as well!!
I choose the 325th Checkertail colors 'cause it's the group my grandfather flew with in the war. The model is as close as I could reasonably get to an exact representation to his A/C using photos from his photo album as references. Had a custom dry-transfer decal set done using my artwork for the A/C name, canopy script, and nomenclature. Checks, star/bar and "27" are paint.
RonLondon,
Thanks for the kuddo's, (see above) building this one was really a labor of love and respect.
yes, it's the same 65''WS Royal kit as you have. It was also way too advanced for my building skill when I started it. Had to put it aside for a while at 3/4 done due to military service. when I got back to it I had alot more planes/builds behind me and was not wanting to tackle all of the de-construction necessary to finish building it right, so it languished for years un-touched.

Frets, Great story about your Grandfather and the P51. With all the work you put into and with the family story, I would be afraid to fly it! It's a great model regardless. I found other photo's of it on the Royal link you gave me, it really is an obvious labor of love.
BTW, I moved to ABQ in 1982 and at that time the big LHS was Duke City Hobbies on Wyoming and Menaul. I acually bought my kit from Valley Hobbies which was on 4th street. I couldn't remember one on Montgomery, but that was a few years ago.
Good luck with your future projects and thx again for the info.

The guy there that I remember was Lanny(Larry?) Smith. There was a flying field out on the West Mesa where we went on several occasions and he worked on instructing all of the really bad habits out of me that I had developed in teaching myself to fly R/C. Is "The Cooperage" restaurant still there on Lomas?Had a few pics handy at the desk, I recently received them and haven't yet added to his old photo album. These came in a card at Christmas from the guy sittin' in #11, Ralph Fort of Indy, IN. He was G'Pa Bill's wingman and they remained close friends after the war. #37 was Paul Kastner who had been a schoolmate, childhood onward friend. Paul and Bill joined up together and were assigned the same flt school class and then unit. He preferred the "C" modeland refused the upgrade to a "D" because he said that the "C" could yaw faster and that's what gave him the advantage to get his first three (and ironically, his only three) kills; One on his second mission and two on his fourth mission. He was in the same flight with Bill and Paul. #44 was Bill's first "in theatre" A/C, it was either in Brighton or Bristol, England. All of the 325th pilots first reported to England where they flew for two-three weeks in relative safety with training and assessment vets of the 325th before reporting to Italy and joining the real war. New guys were in the "B" models, retired from combat, and the instructors were in the "C"s that had also been sent away from the front. No idea who was in #52, an instructor.
Close up canopy pic is Bill after his first solo at Lakeland Army Airfield, Lakeland, Fla. It's a "B" model 'Stang but it's got a funky windscreen.
Place card for one of the reunions- folds overlike a tent then stands and everything is right side up.

Hey Frets,
Yea the Cooperage is still there and going strong, although the last time I was there was a few years ago for some friends retirement party.
I think you should build your Grandfathers 27, a wingman with #11 on it. If you need it I'll make you a good deal on a Royal P51 kit
.
Anyway, great story! You mentioned military service earlier, did you become an AF pilot also?

That's actually a cool idea to build Ralph's plane as well, but one is plenty for me...Got too many others on in the que, as well as a couple in the repair hangar. Put yours up on fleabay around the end of april-early may...when most of the tax refunds are coming in. These Royal/Marutakas typically bring a good price.
No USAF here, I followed in the family tradition a little closer...ARMY Aviation! Grabbed a full ride military/academic scholarship out of high school and proceeded to a little school in your neck of the woods, NMMI down in Roswell. Another 18 mos at UNM before heading out west further and finally grad at Univ. N.C.-Charlotte. Ft Rucker, Ala after that for heli school and then maint test pilot school. My main AC was the Huey AH1 Cobra, but I was rated in the entire inventory due to the maint side.
Asked about the Coop 'cause I worked there for a while, then for Burnside Homes Const. Our reserve unit was In the Army-Navy reserve building at the Wyoming gate for KAFB.

Do you have the plans for the P51 royal kit?
Planning a scratch build and they would be handy!
Thanks ahead of time!

Hi there,
Is it possible that you send me also these plans from the royal P51d 64 3/4 inch.
I have already a canopy of this model, but still no plans with rib pattern to start scratch build this plane.
greetings from Maarten

Surprised you builders don't know about this web site:
http://aerofred.com/search.php?searc...&submit=Search
You will need to sign up, all of the Marutaka plans are there along with tons of others.

Hey All,
I have Royal P51 kit that I bought back in the mid 1980's.

For whatever reason I was looking up the specifications in particular the wingspan of the old Royal P-51 kit and the second thing that popped up on the search was this thread featuring The full fuselage photo of the kit that I built which still resides in the hanger space over my garage to this very day. Haven't been able to get much flying time in the past 5 years but the Badger Queen is still alive and well
