RE: Scale poseable pilot making
Hi Damo
If you have a look about 10 postings above yours you will see a pic of a pilot that may suit you. A US pilot with a crusher cap known as Stew. If you're interested let me know otherwise if that doesn't suit let me know what you're after instead. Not that I can whip one up straight away but I'd like to know what you're after if Stew isn't right.
I painted Manfred and he was looking terrific but then we decided that his eyes were too small. So back to the drawing board, made a few changes and he'll be recut this afternoon. His big eyes are a feature of his face and we want to get him right.
cheers
Patti

Damo, there's also Pappy Boyington famously known for flying Corsairs but he has the cap and goggles. There's a picture of him on the 1/2 built website www.properlittlepeople.

Damo, would you want the oxygen mask moulded onto the face or removable? It's a bit hard to see the face at all with the mask covering it! If we could make a removable one, it could go onto Pappy- (or future heads) as he already has the cap and goggles. I'm going to have a look for some flexible casting material not the rigid stuff the heads are cast from as it'd be useful for making goggles as well.
I just noticed you were from the Sunny Coast - hi neighbour

This is "Pappy" but you can have bent arms for flying instead of the pictured straight ones. You can obviously not roll sleeves up and have a jacket with the other style of mae west.

Let's try that again!
We stayed out of the flood waters but nothing has come into or out of Bundy for a week. Should start getting mail again this week and be able to send our produce away too.
cheers

Hi Patti,
really big show, fantastic work. [X(]
I only need the heads of the Wright brothers in 1 / 6, maybe a few other pioneers (only the 1/6 heads).
Can you help me and how much costs one painted head?
greetings Matz

Hi Matz
I was wondering how long before someone asked for the Wright brothers You can certainly purchase just the heads but it would be a little while til I have time to do them. I'm currently working on the Red Baron and then Erich Hartmann, plus I have a couple of private commissions on the table. I will PM you about the pricing details which will soon be available on the website.
cheers

Hi Patti,
thanks for your answer, yes I am also surprised,....but the Wright brothers will fly first to Germany.
Patti, can I get the heads also in 1 / 7 or 1 /8, whatever I need? Later I need Gabriel Voisin, Farman and Gerd Fröbe.
Sorry but I am building only exotics.

Patti if I may, the reason you havent had a request for the Wright Bros is that the airplanes they flew- barely did fly- you just dont see many Wright flyers buzzing successfolly around your average flying field. I call to mind the very handsome Glen Curtis you crafted that has had but one not too successful flight. Whereas dashing Doug has lots and lots of good flying Nieuport 28 c1 to choose from, as it is a much more conventional flying machine.

RE: Scale poseable pilot making
Hi again
Drying out, caught up and back on track Haven't been idle either, we've recut Manfred about 4 times! just refining and tweaking his features until we were both happy with him and now the cap has also been redone to fit the head well and had the piping put around the top. I've been researching the badges, buttons and medals on his jacket and they're about to be cut. He has a German Army Pilot's badge which took a while to find out what it was called so we could get a decent picture of it. It's quite conspicuous and hangs on the left side below the Iron Cross.
I've made a "first draft" of the jacket and machine embroidered the red piping around the edges and it's going to look great. That needs a little refining in the shape and I'll make a good one and then the pants. The boots are going to be made with the wrap around putties over the top and moulded in one. In the larger size - 1/3 the flight cap can be made from leather but with the smaller sizes they would probably be better done in fabric - or .... we just got some new flexible casting compound to make an A-14 oxygen mask and the first trial is amazing. The stuff is extremely resilient and holds great detail and is really flexible so we will probably be able to make "leather" caps for the smaller sizes that pull onto the head from this stuff. It should be great for goggles as well so loads of potential for new accessories there.
I'm also doing a commission for a 1/3 and 1/5 pilot of someone to take to a scale rally in early April so pushing on with that. I think he was inspired by you Brad The rally is on at Dick Smith's property near Canberra and we're actually hoping to make it down there ourselves with a few pilots in hand - and hopefully a plane or 2! Because it's at Dick's place we're making a pilot of him as well so a few projects humming along.
Ahh, too much fun to be had
cheers
Patti
PS - Lynn, I haven't forgotten Erich Hartmann, he's next and the uniform should be quicker since the pants at least are the same as Manfred's.

Doc,
the Wright flyer was a terrible airplane, but I had made some changes.
I have very good original material from the years 1900 to 1920, with a lot of input.
These documents are very helpful for me. Look at my thread: Otto Lilienthal Glider
