Honestly getting both motors in synch... and having a clutch.... to get them to idle... is a real pain in the ***** No reverse...

After all that messing aroung 2 Giant AstroFlight 40's provide smooth powerfull thrust. No messy gas and can creep by you and then hit full throttle.

Hey , you have just helped me change my mind !! I have been thinking of running two nitro engines in my newest donzi build . I thought it would be a little bit messy and what not . I have been looking for some trannys and electra start system , but unable to find it . I will probably stick with my astro flight 40 motors . I have run these and 25 before . The 40's really push the donzi good . Well electic set up is easy to use and trouble free !! Nitro does sound/look good in the 65 donzi Though !!! Here's a couple pics of one completed in my pond running with two astro flight 25's !

Nice looking boat - - and great action shots! The boat looks like it has very fast speed.

Here is a little video taken today from onboard my Donzi. Once again, it is powered by Johnson 970 motors ($4 motors)

I just test ran my Z65 powered by twin Johnson Mini-EVs, a Novak SuperDuty ESC, and a pair of 8.4V, 4500 mAh NiMH battery packs. I ran it without the cabin or tower since they are not finished, and man does it FLY!!!!! I was going to try four battery packs and 2 ESCs, primarily for more running time, but I think now that the boat would be so fast that it would be very difficult to handle and not look scale at all. I suppose I could just throttle back... but what fun would that be!

Did you see any difference between the Astro25's and the Astro40's

Matt, Where did you get the Johnson motors from? I need a couple.

Thanks, Marty

Hey thanks !! I checked out the vid , looks sweet !!! I am running to astro 25's in the boat in the pic . I use a 12 volt hobbico 7 amp starter battery . It gives it the scale weight and provides about 45 min - 1 hour of run time . My current donzi build I am installing astro 40's in . I have the cabin , deck , tuna tower and outriggers done . The tuna tower is powder coated white . I'll take some pics and post them up on here . I want to see some more pics and videos of other peoples boats and there engine setups !!!! The ones I have seen so far on here look GREAT !!!!!!

Yes there is a little bit of speed differance and torque between the 40''s and 25's . I would say go with 40's if you are going to use astro flight motors ! I think there are a lot of excellent engine choices to go with on the donzi . It all depends on what someone wants to use and how much $ to spend on it !!!

Slivic003 - - - I am surprised that you are using only 12v on your Donzi. To get to speed on my Donzi, I need 16.8volts. Which speed control are you using?

Hey , I am using 2 astro flight reversing harbor master esc . one on each engine . I had thought about boosting the power , but she runs good on 12 volts . I may juice it up a bit on my other donzi with the 40's . Oh check out this site . Look at the 55 viking . sells for around $14,000.00 . Captiansmodels.com I tried to get the guy to sell me a hull and deck but he would not do it !

For the wealthy, $14000 is a drop in the bucket. Like $140 bucks to us.

Wow! Captainsmodels.com That's the nicest looking model I think I have ever seen. I'd take my whole junky RC fleet to trade for one of those. I wouldn't get close to the value of that Viking!

Prop size - - I do not know off hand. Raboesch - - I will take a picture.

I think the guys name is Bob that owns captains models . I spoke with him awhile back about some of the boats ( I wanted one until I found out the price tag on them ! ) he said he builds most of the boats for people who own the real thing and want a mini model !! For 7,000.00 you can get the viking without the tuna tower , outriggers , and r/c electronics and motors was the price he told me if I remember right . Oh well ......I will stick with my Donzi's ....at least I can say I built it !!!!!!!! I aam running the dumas 3 blade prop , the one dumas says to use .

CNC Bot Parts makes a real nice set of machined motor mounts specifically for the Mini-EV motors.

Hey , I just picked up a pair of 970 motors on ebay .( $23.00 for both!!!!!) I was thinking of trying them in one of my donzi's . How many volts are you running to your motors ? And what prop are you running ? Direct coupling or a gear reduction ?

I ran my donzi with the astro 40's yesterday in my pond ......ran over a stick and busted my strut !! It was running good until I hit the stick !!!

Did you buy your motors from Taterbug? If so - - that is my source for motors.

I am running 16.8v through a Novak SuperDuty ESC. No gear reduction.
