Default Another newbe tank question thread.

First let me tell you that this forum is great. I think it has saved me from making a mistake.

Now that I am a little more educated I am still looking for my 1st tank. I am going to go with a HL tank as it will just be something to sit on my shelf at work and to run around the office a little bit. The things I want are realistic speed, and gun and turret operation...airsoft would be fun.

The big thing I want is realistic speed. I have read about 10speed and how it comes on some tanks but not others by HL.

I am looking at the RCtankwars site can like the following items.

P-IV with metal upgrades super series.
P-III all metal or super series
P-III h tauch Panzer super series
of course the Tiger 1

Can anyone tell me if any or all of these tanks has the 10speed, slower speed options.

The rest of the items on my wish list are not deal busters for me but real speed and road wheel movement are big things to me.

Thanks
cherokee.

Cherokee,
RCtankwars is a good outfit. You can contact them off their site and explain what you want and they'll get back to you with-in a day or two. Typically the sound and smoke HL tanks have the proportional speed control your talking about. To get any better control with a HL tank, you'll want to get the 3:1 gear ration boxes. That'll slow them down and give you good torque for climbing things. I have the HL tanks with metal upgrades and am happy with the control once you get a liite used to it. Hope this helps.

The HL line as well as all other RC tank brands are far faster than scale. Like the Sargent said you will need to use some type of gear reduction to get them down to a scale speed..As far as the office goes, these tanks generally don't like carpet as it can snag in the tracks and cause problems. They act like real tanks, so they work best on that type off terrain. And as far as the metal up grades, you wont need them for the use you intend. It is money you don't need to spend. Most of the guys I just competed against at Danville use stock plastic tracks.

Thanks for the input, I shot off a note to the folks at Rctankwars.

Drifting back and fourth on the use. I know it will sit on my shelf, but when on a long call I want to run it around my office. I like the older tanks, wish I could find a stewert.

Years ago I had a little Tiger fit in the palm of your hand...I still have the tank but don't know who made it. It was perhaps 4" long rubber tracks and high detail.....any ideas who and if they are still around.

You'll do OK with a HL tank. Phil will advise on the proper stuff. There are no M-3 or M-5A1 Stuarts in 1;16 scale, but a huge 1;6 scale is available which can me made into a pretty authentic looking tank. Ebay has them now and then, but look on line for 1;6 scale Stuart tank. There uis a website dedicated to them; M-5stuartrctankbattalion.com. The 1;72 and HO scale tanks are available at most hobby shops and a lot of guys like to work at that tiny scale. 1;16 scale tanks a nice to work with and open to a lot of detailing.

have fun.
