Wartime Beetle
Got lucky and came across an old Revell 1/16th Beetle she is a 1951/52 model
so I am back dating her to a wartime machine. She will get a rad camo job
and she will be RC as I have modded her to fit on a Tamiya Kublewagon chassis.
I wanted to use the Kuble body as well so with a bit of planning and careful cutting have
removed the guards from the bottom half of the Kuble and attached them to the top half.
Hopefully you can see what I am saying in the below pic, original Kuble at top.
Glued in some mounts with screws to remove body, as you can see the Kuble chassis is
almost perfect size wise, pretty happy with that!
Slapped on some paint.
Also doing a 1/25th diecast Beetle to the left and 1/35th scale Beetle to the right.
If I am going to set up the airbrush try and make it worth while so painting up a bit of a fleet
of Beetles, 1/16, 1/25 and 1/35th.
Got some camo on found a nice scheme, couldn't resist!
Also converting a 1/25th diecast Beetle to wartime colours.
This aws a lot harder to do than it looks!
Had to scratch build horns on bumper, horn and guard mounted convoy light.
And don't forget the Kublewagon.

Nice Porsche! Interesting project, and well done.
The good Hr Doktor designed the original VW, and it was quite successful. Schnikelgruber built the Wolfsburg complex as a planned factory and town complex. The Germans could have money deducted from their pay and held in an escrow account until they had paid enough to buy a VW.
After the War, of course everyone thought the monies were gone, but when the VW complex got up and running again, VW said anyone who had their payment book from before and during the war, VW would honor what they paid against a new VW. Talk about instant brand loyalty!
If memory serves, the first post war production was two units in late '45, after most of the rubble had been cleared away. Might be wrong on the year though, might have been early '46. And in late '45, Henry Ford was on a tour of Germany, accessing the damage to factories and infrastructure, and was shown the VW plant complex. He was offered the complex as partial payment for his war time efforts on USA's behalf, and after looking at the Beatle, said something to the effect of 'I don't think that thing will sell, so I'll pass'. Hmmm.
The Kubel was built on the original VW Kafir chassis, basically unmodded, as the German Jeep. Worked quite well, and some are still running around today.

I thought I would throw this out as a little historical info. This was given out by Volkwagen of America back in the 70's ( I used to own several VWs back then). It shows some of the changes made over the years since the war.

Wow ... Nice find !
Like many I have a had a few Volkswagens over the years and loved every one of them. Actually I still have a decent factory sunroof 1967 that is completely stock except for some old Scat seats and 5 panel Wink mirror. Its always fun to drive though some times I miss the days of my youth when it as all about the "Cal Look", Webber Carbs on big motors and a "Bug in" or "Bugoramma" complete with drag racing every few months.
lol I don't miss frequent valve adjustments etc though
Just last night while playing Granturismo5 I unlocked a Kubelwagon and promptly set a new personal record for slowest lap ever at Lagund Seca
Anyway great model, I'm a bit Envious of your find, its very cool.

RE: Wartime Beetle
As well as RC tanks I am a bit of a VeeDub fan, my dream car a mid to late 60s
original Beetle (with a factory sunroof would be nice!)
In the mean time models are satisfying my dreams, hope to get close to finished
on these babies this week.

I did a Google search and came up with this.........May not be good anymore. If I find two, I'll let you know about the one I don't buy!

The photo of the real People's Car has a base coat of RAL 8000 with 6003 as its disruptive pattern. That tells us this one was probably painted between early 1941 through early 1943 at the latest.
Nice work and an ingenious use of a Kubel!
