Default Looking for a Dozer to RC ..

I have been looking for a Dozer that would be a good canidate to RC.No success yet in my search.Trying to find one in actual size that is close to a 1/16 HL tank. The body of the Dozer is the most important part as the track (under-carrige ) i'll build. If anyone spots one of these please let me know....

Check out Bruder, Norscot, and other manufaturer's at 3000toys.com you can search by scale. I've used Bruder stuff for
my 1/14 lowboy tank transport and a snow plow on my Tamiya King Hauler. I've thought about doing the same but there just
isn't alot of room to hide electronics, battery, servo's, etc.

I have looked at a lot of the bruder stuff.....but like you said finding one big enough to put all the guts in is the big problem.I wanted to use HL gearboxes and boards.I thought about a total scratch build....but it would be a lot of work.If i can find one big enough then a lot of it would be done as far as the main body and blade.

Tapkoote i tried clicking on the youtube post and got a page with a big red X and it said page could not be displayed.?

Also as a side note i would like to find one with the older style tracks.

maybe these will help...just perused the sites, but looked like they might help:

www.backyardtrucking.com

http://www.stahl-modellbau.de/
www.rcconstructiontoys.com

Maybe some of these contacts can help you find a vendor:

Thank you philipat,

Was watching some of the youtube you refferenced, and some neat dozers there.I knew these were being rc'd and it was nice watching some in action.Just looked through 18 pages of tanks on ebay checking for size and prices.Wish i could see some of these models "hands on" as for me looking at a picture is hard to judge suitability for what i have in mind as to RC-ing it.May have to try some of the local toy stores,or just take a chance on what i end up with.

Thanks again.............BIGMIG

The HL stuff would never hold up to the work load being put on this type of project.  Virtually everyone I have seen use gear motors with reduction units. This is in a series config. They are put into a cylindrical "axle". As had been stated there is very little room to begin with and a convetional gear box just would not be the way to go. As far as the HL electronics, well they speak for them selves.<div>http://hobbyocasion.xopie.com/es/lis...modificaciones</div><div>http://www.rctruckandconstruction.com/index.php</div><div> The first site is just an example of what people do and how they build them. The second is a really good forum to get all the info you need. </div><div> A good bunch of guy's over there too.</div>

This is one i found that may work for what i want.It's a ( Bruder ) and is 18 X 10 X 7 1/4 and sells for around $40.00 dollars.

This is a late style model dozer, and looks to maybe be a canidate fo being RC-d.I think it is sold by Toy's our us and i hope to go find one and get one in my hands to see if it's what i want or if it's just to much of a toy to mess with.

Will add more here bit by bit as this RCU web site keeps acting up and i loose most of what i write.?

A little more detail as to what i have had in mind for a long time.Don't want to jump the gun here as this has been just an idea i have been thinking about for more than a year. But until i find a dozer model that will work for what i want,it is just that...An idea.

The HL motors will work just fine as far as speed and power needed for this lite of a model. The HL boards are cheap and plenty sufficient to handle one of these.I have even figured out how to use the turret rotation motor for raising and lowering the blade. It will most likely only be run as a working model and will not be used to push dirt around.I hope to use tracks and sprockets off one of the HL tank models if it looks like this could be done.Hope to get one of these dozers in my hand and see if they will work.?

P.S. It won't stay yellow-LOL

Back in 1986 when I was in the Civil Engineering Heavy Equipment Shop at Edwards AFB, we'd always get Equipment Today trade magazines thru base distribution. Guess distribution figured construction equipment ad periodicals MUST automatically go to where equipment operators work...

We'd throw'em on the break tables for something to look thru during lunch. One day I saw this ad about this scale D11 High-Track dozer being built in Tennessee. Looked like something I'd REALLY be interested in so I sent the spine card in to'em. Couple weeks later I got this info in the mail!! WISHED I'd have had the money back then to have ordered one!

Figure the prospective buyers were mostly rich construction company owners who also received Equipment Today and could afford such a 'toy' back then...

And, remember, the prices listed are 1980's prices (and they're STILL a good chunk today for a model!) so ya have to figure out what the price today would be IF they were still being made...

And this old military 'Heavy Junk Driver' would LOVE to have a sturdy RC dozer too! I watch'em on youtube and I occasionally check ebay in the hopes somebody who bought one of these big RC dozers back then may want to sell it!

I stoped in at toys"R"us and they did not stock the dozer i realy wanted to see.So i figured what the heck, and decided to have them order me one and i would just take a chance it will be something i can RC.......If it turns out to be not worth trying i'll just give it to some kid.For $48.00 dollars i don't think it will break me. Had it shipped to the store and it will be in in about a week......

Well i picked up the dozer i had ordered yesterday. It turned out to be a dissapointment. They had posted the size on the web-site as it being 18 X 10 X7.20 which had it been that size it would have worked nicely. It is actually 15 1/4 X 7 X 7.50 which is way to small for what it needed to be to install all the goodies. What is strange is the sizes posted was the size of the box it was packed in,not the size of the dozer.?? I would also point out it is not worth $40.00 dollars as far as i'm concerned for any use. They told me at the store i could retun it if it was not going to work for what i wanted. So that is what i'm going to do is take it back and will most likely lose the $8.00 shipping.

So the search is still on for one that will work for me to RC...........

BIGMIG

P.S. It does say on the box it is 1/16 scale which it may well be,but none the less to small for me.
