Default Grenade Screens for KT

Anyone put these together for their KT. If so, do you have pics of the completed screens. Seems the drawing included doesn't seem to explain the front curved part very well. I have curved it, but it doesn't seem to fit?? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Jim,

They are a little finicky, trust you fabricated the styrene pieces? That is basically the frame to hold them in place. Here are some pics when I built mine:

dgsselkirk
My screens had the rear piece as part of the etch, the front piece was separate and like I said, when bent to shape it seemed to small. I will probably just fab it in plastic. Also, should the screens be that far back or cover the intake completely. I have the instructions from a 1/35 Tamiya KT and it looks like they are a bit more forward then yours??
Regardless, thanks for the answer and idea of using plastic for the curved front piece.

Yep, in my original line drawings of a KT with Porsche turret they extended forward completely covering the lower debris screens but with the kit I got when I bent it into shape and put the back end where it should be they only went up that far. So I thought that's strange... but I did find some reference for the shorter screens someplace so I didn't worry about it too much...
Click on the image and it should come up bigger for you.

dgsselkirk,
Hmmm. When I put them on like that, the engine hatch lifting bracket gets in the way of mounting them. Think it would be OK to slid them up to clear the bracket??Or should I reposition the bracket?? I like the way they look when moved up, but want to be at least be semi prototypical. What do you think??

So yours must be wider than mine if I am reading you right. Send a pic of the position please. I would like to see if yours are different than mine.
The more I am digging around the more I think mine are wrong! LOL! All from the same kit so the other screens fit fine...weird!

Here is a photo of the Aberdeen/Fort Knox Tiger II before it was shipped over from Europe. It will give you a little better view of what the screens looked like on the real thing. To bad all the tools, tow ropes, and grenade screens went missing. I have photos of this tank from when it was at Fort Knox, but sadly not of the grenade screens as they were gone by the time it made it to Fort Knox?

dgsselkirk an Maus,
One thing I had failed to mention was that I'm building these for a Porsche KT. The kit I bought may have been intended for a Henschel KT?? Anyway, I

finally took some pics so you all can see what I mean.
KT Screens Pics 1 and 2 show the screen covering the grills completely. Pic 3 shows the screen's in position suggested in the instructions and from both of your posts but with the engine grill partly exposed. Pic 4 shows with turret in place. The rights side screen is in your suggested position but with part of the grill exposed, the left side moved forward slightly covering the grill completely. Pic 5 shows same without the turret.
My main concern is to put the screens in the position suggested for the Henschel KT, I would have to relocate the engine cover lifting hooks. In so doing, not sure how correct that would be?? Worried that I'm creating an inaccuracy to make room for possibly another mistake??
I will patiently await your valued opinions before acting, also, anyone else choose to chime in, I would greatly appreciate your outlook as well.

Thanks All.

Jim

I will dig into my KT archives that I used to build mine this weekend and see what I can find.

Amazing how when this stuff was being shipped back to Canada and the U.S. during and after the war how the strangest of parts "disappeared" What the heck would you do with debris/grenade screens? LOL!

I will look and see if I have some Porsche info/photos. I do know that the Aber photos etch sets for the Porsche and Henschel are different.

Maus,
Would you have a link for the Porsche Aber etch sets. All I have seen are the Henschel ones.

Thanks.

Here is a link to Squadron they carry them. I also attached photos of the Aber Porsche set on a Trumpeter Porsche Tiger II to give you an Idea of where they should sit on the engine deck. The Trumpeter and the Tamiya tanks are very close if not the same size. Not sure about the HL or the Mato, but I would think they would still be close to be able to use these photo etch sets from Aber. So the 3rd photo should give you a pretty good idea of where the screens should be located on the engine deck.

Maus45,
Thanks so much. I guess that clears up that. I have ordered the PORSCHE grenade screens. I guess I have a ready made set for when I get an Henschel KT.

Thanks again.

Thats the way it goes! Now you have an excuse to get the Henschel Tiger II. What is interesting is that the Tamiya Porsche Tiger II came with the grenade screens, but didn't have the fan and radiator screens. Oh well, thats why we do this right???

Good news. The new grenade screens for the Porsche KT came in from Squadron today. Pretty good considering I just ordered them over the weekend. I plan on building them tomorrow and post some pics. Thanks again for all the help. Now I have to start saving for a Henschel HT to go along with the screens I have built already.

Mine were Taigen which explains the discrepency. I won't change them now too late for that. Maybe someday...

Looking forward to the pics Jim...
