Default HL Leopard 2A6: Stranded. Need assistance

Hi All,

My Leo 2a6 has stop operating. I have no idea how it happened, it just stopped.

I realised from time to time, my tank stop moving. To fix it, i had to turn off power from the tank, then start the engine from the controller.

This happened many times. And now, it fully stopped working.

Problem is, i was that clever long time ago, i disconnected the headlight LED from the tank. Because i can't stand the look of it. I now learnt how important it is to have that ugly headlights to indicate the power to the tank
and god knows where it gone to, and i couldnt find it anymore. that was vital indication..

My first troubleshooting step was getting 2.4GHz Multifunction Unit For Heng Long 1/16 Tank (Version 2) Link: http://www.ozarmour.com/store/2.4ghz...1-16-tank.html
I realised its Version 2.

Received it, wired it, start up. no luck. all turned on, but not moving!

Question is,

1. Will this Version 2 unit actually works with my stock controller? if no, please advise.

Should i buy the Transmitter? how will these two paired together??

as you all aware, there is no Crystal with Leo2 to pair receiver and transmitter.

What should i do next?

Appreciate your response and suggestion. Thank you.

As far as I know, you shouldn't use HL old version 2.4 TX with new version RX (or vice versa) because the smoke and volume set-ups are different. A new version RX used with an old version TX won't have smoke on/off or volume control at the TX. It stands to reason there may be other differences as well. I recently had a hard time finding an old version replacement for my RX. Have you thought about taking the opportunity to upgrade?

Did you bind the transmitter with the new receiver (2.4GHz Multifunction Unit)?

Picture below showing the version of the transmitter I'm using that have smoke & volume button. I didn't buy the whole radio. I just get the transmitter board & 2.4GHz Multifunction Unit. I replaced the original FM transmitter in the radio with 2.4GHz transmitter. I forgot to take picture of the 2.4GHz
Multifunction Unit board but I remember "2014" printed on it.

Hey Kizwan, good idea, but does that mean you have to solder the wires up?

No need to solder anything. You can disconnect all wires from current transmitter & connect them to new transmitter. I'm not sure about the wires for ON/OFF button though. I changed from FM to 2.4GHz & the ON/OFF wires are soldered on the FM transmitter board. The 2.4GHz 2013 rev4 transmitter I have here use connectors for everything (see pic below). Just plug & play. Basically just need to plug in all the connectors (female connectors) to the appropriate socket (male connectors). I don't know whether the old version of 2.4GHz transmitter also use the same approach. I have extra female connector with the appropriate size. I just wired the ON/OFF switch wires to it & secured it with electrical tape. You can see in the picture in my previous post. I can do better if I have crimping tool.

On the left is 2.4GHz 2013 rev4 transmitter. On the riight is FM transmitter.

Do you know how to bind the transmitter with the receiver? If you don't bind them, you won't be able to use them. I don't know for sure whether you can use current transmitter with ver 2 receiver. If it doesn't want to bind then you'll need new transmitter.

Hi Kizwan,

That looks good. I prefer plug and play rather than messing around with wiring etc... but yours a bit tricky for On/Off connection.. hurrmmmmm

Talking about binding, i'm yet to check my manual on HOW TO bind the controller....

This is what Mark response to my question which im going to try on. (thanks for the direction)
.
================================================== ==============Hi Min,

Thanks for your email.
Have you tried the binding procedure with your current controller? I have attached the set up diagrams with the binding instruction. You can also find the binding instructions in your Leopard 2A6 manual.

If you have tried this and it does not work then the controller you need to go with the version 2 board is:
http://www.ozarmour.com/store/heng-l...-rc-tanks.html

If I can be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate to ask.

Regards

Hi All,

i got it to work! followed instruction from Ozarmour and from RCtankwarfare

"here is the instructions from the HL Leo A6 which comes with the new HL 2.4Ghz radio:

1. Turn on the radio and the tank
2. Press and hold the Start button on the radio
3. Press the Binding button on the receiver/tank

That should do it. I have never used the HL 2.4Ghz set as I sold mine new after ripping it out of the Leo but that's what is in the Leo instruction.

I hope this helps, and is the correct procedure.

Good Luck.

MichaelC."

easy done! Version 2 board is compatible with stock radio for Leo 2A6.

Thanks Kizwan, Maxu52 for the leads, tips, suggestion and instruction. appreciate it.

I'll make sure to post my tank in here to show you why i was so desperate to get it up and running again..

cheers all!
