Default Panzer yellow?

What is a good stock bottle color from Testors for the Panzer yellow.

I bought a color called panzer kamphwagongeld or something like that and its more of a light OD but seems like its way off color.

Does it have to Testors?

Vallejo and Tamiya have good ones, if you're looking for the mid/late war color used on armor and support vehicles, it's referred to as Dunkelgelb (Dark Yellow).

It's actually a greenish yellow, so maybe you Testors color isn't far off. You can find the RAL numbers for German colors as well as model paint comparison charts online.

Testers used to do the boxed sets of enamels, there was a desert set and a European panzer set.

Once you have used up all the paints, the box makes a handy case for your paint brushes

Testors 2095 Panzer Dunkelgelb 1943 from the half ounce bottle sprayed with an Iwata airbrush in 1/48 scale

Testors 195506 rattle can Afrika Mustard in 1/16th scale

Dunkelgelb is not available in the rattlecan, and Afrika mustard is not available in the half ounce bottle.

Ah, the Dunkelgelb is what I have in the bottle but I wanted to paint my PAnzer 3 the early Africa mustard color. I don't do rattle cans so any suggestions for the Africa Mustard mix?

if you can get the Testers paints they are pretty good. All you need after that is a cheap badger open mix airbrush and a half decent compressor (and some Testors thinners of course). Their desert war paints are a pretty good match for what Tiger 131 ended up with.

Oh I use a badger double action brush these days. Wife got it for me for my birthday last year. Been using a badger single action since I was about 12, big learning curve to go up to a double action but I can weather models so much better now.

In that case you are good to go. I much prefer Testors over Tamiya or Humbrol.

Yes, I have so much testors left from my 1:35 miniatures when I was a teen, I still open them and revive them with laquer thinner and they are usually fine to use. I bought some WWII olive drab a the shop last week for the EZ8 build, and it turned out between all my paint boxes, I had like 5 bottles of the same stuff, some un opened. Geez, and its not like I build military models much, its mostly all 1940s logging trains.

I don't understand why you won't use rattle cans, but you can always buy the Afrika mustard and decant it for airbrush use. The FSM website has a fine video on decanting spray cans.

EDIT: One more thing, I don't know what I'd do without one particular rattle can, and that's testors dulcote. It blends and smooths and gets rid of that shiny toy-like look. So even if you absolutely refuse to use rattle cans of any type, dulcote should be the exception to the rule.

To get my Desert yellow I mix 50% Tamiya desert Yellow with Tamiya Dark Yellow. True German desert yellow has a slight tint of green. Your not going to match it exactly though, read this article to see why

I just dont like using rattle cans. I ruined models when i was a kid because i couldnt controll the flow or just got the paint on thicker than i wanted. I asked for an airbrush and never looked back. I have painted several real military vehicles with spray guns as well.
The dull cote can is the absolute only can i have. I dont care for the splatter effect they sometimes make and if done too heavy it begins to whiten out stuff. I like using bottles of flat for spraying in the air brush, but i think they were all floquil, as thats what i have been using for years doing trains. But alas may floquil rest in peace as testors bought it, then killed it.

I stopped at the shop today and bought two more colors, their not panzer yellow but they are afrika grunbraun and sandgelb rlm.
i like the sandgelb, its a pink hued desert tan. I think i might use it as a base then heavily weather or maybe camo with the dunkelgelb, i dont know, just what ever looks good to me at the moment, its just a hl and i can repaint it.

You probably already know about this site, but try www.paint4models.com but don't download it, just launch it. I don't know why it's two different charts but it is and the launched one is much better once you take the few minutes to learn how to use it. You can line up your brands side by side and it will give you the same colors in other brands. I use it all the time to go from humbrol to model master.
