Default Tamiya light unit

I just completed my Tamiya JS-2 kit. My lights aren't working however. Is there an easy way to trouble shoot the light unit?

Are you sure they aren't working, or you just can't figure out how to activate them? The DMD/MFU configuration and trim thingy always gets first-time owners. Look closely at the lights when you turn the power switch off and on - usually there is a faint flicker from the bulbs when the system powers up.

To turn on the lights you have to use the turret rotation stick and trim set to max. I'm working on painting mine right now So I can't remember which way you move it. Also make sure that both plugs are in the MFU. the three pin and two pin. They should be seated one above the other.

If that doesn't work you can hook up a 3V supply directly to the LED and see if it powers.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the replies. Bill, I didn't know that the two pin had to be plugged in. In fact, I didn't see a place to plug it in. the instructions say the red LED will not be used so I figured it didn't need to be plugged in. What I thought was a void right below the 3 pin, actually had a dummy plug in it. I pulled the dummy plug and inserted the 2 pin and let there be light. Moving the left stick to the right after sliding the trim to the right turns them on and off. Thanks for the help guys.

Keep in mind that red light is a working brake light.

I couldn't resist and installed them (and the navigationals).

Thanks cleong, after getting it all working, I went back and watched for what you said might happen when turning on the power and it did, the light flashed. This has been a learning experience, thanks again.

You know, i have never tunred on the lights in my sherman since its got a dx5 radio with digital trims, i couldnt get it to work. Reading this thread i turned the tank on in my darkened garage and did not see any lights at all as the tank came to life, maybe my unit is dead.
What voltage does it use? I was thinking of just supplying the voltage seperately on channel 5 to switch it.

You have to be careful with those, they blow easy. When trying to figure out LEDs I start with a 1.5 volt AA battery and see if it powers up, and if not I go up 1.5 volts at a time until I get some action.
