M29/M29c Wewasel

Sometimes I think maybe I shouldn't post photos of some of my projects. This is one. The name of this forum is RC Universe/RC tanks. This Weasel project is not RC --- it isn't even crudely motorized. It was just a fun project that I thought could make use of the spare Mato Pz III track in my spare parts box. No kidding ---- I built this thing just so that I could use one half of a PZ III track set!Photos of a real M29 convinced me to do it. It was small, flat side, with not much interior. And by golly --- there was an amphibious version as well. Building a standard M29 that had removable M29c floatation pods had me hooked.
Now that it's built, I think I can still motorize it so that could be turned on and just run in a straight line into a pool of water, and then float across with the tracks rotating for propulsion, (good planning rex). . The details on this project were a bugger. I never realize what I have gotten myself into until I'm half way through a project. Here is what I have so far .... done except for paint.

Another impressive build Rex! I remember building a motorized kit of the M-29c(can't remember scale or manufacturer) as a kid back around 1970 and was recently thinking how cool it'd be to have a 1:16 RC one. Seeing yours motivates me to at least add it to my "to do" list.

I remember that. I believe the kit you built was a Monogram kit ........

And I know what you guys are thinking, but just saying I wasn't worth a crap to start with would be very unoriginal so you'll have to do better than that.

I for one have no issues or problems seeing non-RC projects such as this Rex. Especially anything of yours.
We need more eye opening images of military themed vehicles instead of just plain out of the box tanks.

Darn it, Rex, I thought the Wewasel was some rare tank I had never heard of and I was all set to try and copy you and build one, then you tell me it's just a darn weasel. You really burst my bubble, Buddy. Now I'm all depressed and won't be worth a crap for at least a week. Now where's that darn bottle of antidepressants?

Ha Ha !!! I gotcha ---- I knew somebody would fall for the thread title that I misspelled on purpose !!! I NEVER make a typing mistake ..... except for that one time when my careless fingers misspelled and posted the name Styudebaker.
Also, why is it possible to edit and correct the message text on this forum, but not the thread title????
In addition, I also double posted this thread by accident yesterday, but thank goodness nobody mentioned that test. I spelled Weasel correctly on that first post !

Jeff ....
For a few years I built stuff that was R/C, and when I finished it I ran it around for a little bit and then put it on a shelf. I finally began to wonder why I R/Cd anything if I wasn't going to run it at least once in a while. The time and cost of making it operational got to be a consideration too. I have a lot of R/C stuff that I bought from Tamiya, Mato, and other manufacturers to keep me happy when I want to play with my tanks. My Tamiya Pershing is the only tank I have for battles. But nothing is more fun for me than scratch building.
A lot of guys on this forum have given up plastic and gone to solid metal machines, and do upgrades for everything that can possibly be improved. I
am amazed at some of the extensive upgrades that I look at when they get posted. The R/C technology today is incredible compared to 25 years ago. I wonder what it will be like 25 years from now?

Hey Rex, I'm with Jeff. Non RC doesn't matter, because it's still tank related just because it's the right scale, it's military, and could be used for battlefield deco, a photo shoot prop, or even a payload on an RC truck. I posted a thread on the watchtower I built and that's definitely not an RC Tank, but it's so directly related I don't see a problem. The only reason I built it was because it looks good (IMO) with my tanks in photos and videos .
You do great work and we want to see more, RC or not.

I am pretty much there too myself. With my health and mobility, doctors/hospital bills and co-pays (well... you see the picture) I have decided that not all projects MUST be RC. I'll finish with what I have already set aside and kits I have yet to build but the ones without the gear will be static as most of my RC stuff might as well be static too as it just collects dust.

Thanks to all for the comments about R/C and non R/C projects. I just wasn't thinking of that aspect of our hobby. Contributing something positive (or at least different) to this hobby forum is what I hope to do in some small way. Building a "battlefield decoration" would be a good description for some of my projects. The bucket list of tanks I would like to build is endless, and sometimes I have trouble deciding what to build next. But I'm sure this hobby will keep me busy having fun until I get old.

I agree that a lot of your work makes truly excellent battlefield accessories (or decorations) and I think that's great. I'd be proud to feature quite a few of your projects in the videos I make on my playground, any time you want to send a few this way.
I think you have more than a few RC projects I'd be delighted to drive around in my humble little village.
And anytime you want some help I'd be happy to take any of your static stuff and make it RC, and for me it would be a total treat just getting to do the test drive before sending it back. That would give you more time to come up with more great stuff like those derelict tanks in the snow. I still can't get over how well that came out. Someday I hope to do you enough favors that you actually will build something just for my little tank village.
Did you see the thread I just posted about the birdfeeders? That's giving me a bunch of ideas and I'd love to hear what ideas they bring to your mind, Rex.
If you ever find yourself near Detroit I'll be sorely disappointed if you don't stop by and drive something around for a while. You can drive anything I have here, any time you want to, or you can bring your own.

Yes sir, I looked your posting about battlefield structures. A long time ago Toys r Us had a few cheap things that I bought for one of our battlefields. They had a fountain for a village center, a bombed out barn and a few other $20 items, but I don't know if they are still available. I agree that the details decorating a battlefield are worth the effort. All of the structures in the photos of the backyard "urban battlefields" I posted were built by one Kellys' Heroes club member!
Thanks for the nice words about the derelict tanks in the snow. That was my first time at doing something like that and I really tried to do a good job at duplicating the photo. I was happy with the way it turned out. I learned that scratch building is easier than photographing a diorama. The tank up close is 1/16. The tank hull in the "distance" is 1/35 and it was done on the top of my bench. Perspective photography is tricky, I don't think I'm gonna shoot my mouth off about doing that anytime soon .....or ever again.

Offering to make my static stuff R/C is a kind and generous offer. But those who know me are aware that to touch my models in any way invites the wrath of Satan and risks dismemberment and other not nice things. You can trash my house, wreck my SUV, hack into my bank account, but don't ever think about touching "my babies". Still want me to come to Detroit?

Of course I still want you to come to Detroit. I think you'd have a great time driving around my little playground, and anyone that does work like yours I trust to handle any and all of my toys.
And I wasn't kidding about my desire to one day have a Rex Ross original gracing my humble little tank village.
