All the "novelty" functions to me are just that. More for motorized models than battling r/c tanks. Both have thier place, I just don't need my driver's visor to go up and down or my hull MG to rake or control my volume/smoker via TX. All things to get in the way in my lower/upper hull when I need to do quick maintenance at a battle weekend. As for some of the other "battling" functions other boards have yea their cool, but unless everyone has the same board doing the same "ammo" what's the point. Same with the hidden IR receiver bundles.

Why do you say hidden recievers are useless?

Never said useless, just everyone needs to have them to be on a level field. I'd love to not have the "apple", but unless everyone doesn't have an exposed IR receiver (apple) it won't cut it. Doesn't matter how much testing is done wether it's hidden receivers, lowered apples, aftermarket IR bulbs, etc. Someone is going to say something is unfair for some reason. Have to try and eliminate all variables for less belly aching during IR battles. Say we got everyone motivated to switch to the vampire system, awesome. Now we have to make sure every sensor works before a battle, man that sucks with 40 tankers at inspection. Then the people that don't have the system attend and also the folks that don't have the experience to solder and install the sensors properly. Like I said, cool but not practical since personal installation can vary so much. On a smaller club level with 5-10 guys much more manageable but still work.

Don't you already test the apple working and a tank takes hits from each side at 20ft or what ever?

We've had hidden systems at our club for years and you're at a disadvantage compared to a tbu with slope defence and 45 degree defence. But most will take the hit because it looks better

Yes we inspect tanks to make sure they take hits from all 4 angles. Like I said, I like the hidden receivers just would take a lot more to inspect and correct if one sensor wasn't picking up IR and if half have the system and half don't. I'm going to hear noise from both sides that something is to an advantage/disadvantage. We try to leave out user interference on the electronics. Wether it's on purpose or intentional when heavier installation is required more will have to be looked over to keep a level playing field for everyone that attends. If your a newbie that doesn't have the experience or know how to install such components to a season vet always looking to mod and upgrade, gotta get them on the same field electronically speaking. We've had hidden IR receiver tanks on the battlefield and really the biggest issue is seeing the indicator led's that you've taken a hit. If you can't see the hit led's out to 100' it's again not the same as an exposed apple that will show hits clearly.
