More Sherman Turret Pics...This time with the color coded Tamiya Battle UNit Apple Installed for looks... The turret and Tank will be getting a coat of Paint before finished.I sanded some areas in order to blend the turret at the seams..like pcd1964 said...GET ROD OF SEAMS!!
I painted the parts before assembly so that when I apply the final paint I wont "miss areas"...

Getting carried away ... I got my KingTIger out and set them side-by side to see the actual size difference since they are both 1/16 scale..WOW that KT is a BIG BAD TANK....It is no wonder why the Shermans had to out number those KT's to overtake them...BIG BIG TANK!!
BTW the Flash on my Camera made the flat olive olive drab paint look greenish-blue/// It really looks OD in person...
I am off to rest....Tomorrow more details and parts to be added..Where are those bearings???????????

Next part of the suspension consists of these springs, bases, retainers...Once I assemble these I will paint them and the shocks before final assembly...

So while I painted the assemblies above I began mounting the rubber on the road wheels...all 24 of them...fingers get tired 1/2 way through....
Tomorrow will be fun..Will actually final assemble the suspension parts and mount to Sherman...and then install sprockets and tracks...then mount internal electronics and finally fire her up!!!!!!!! Maybe not all Friday nite.........

Ok so..Working on the suspension...I gathered the Road wheels, assembled the "wheels and axles" also got the bearings pressed into the suspension arms which were a nice tight fit...all 24 of them..I am sooo glad I took the advice of experienced tankers and went with the bearings..Much Less resistance...I can tell already...

Next I made an assembly line and began attaching the road wheels to the suspension arms as well as attaching the "horizontal shock to the two sub assemblies to join them together.,..VERY CRUCIAL is that you make all SIX sets of suspension/roadwheel assemblies THE EXACT SAME>>>

Then we attach the front drive sprocket and tracks and then adjust the track tension to where it only droops approx 25mm per the instruction manual...I have found this tension to be just right indoors or out..at least for me...
After this I applied the road wheel caps and then installed the speaker box, battery, harnesses and all the internal stuffings per instruction manual and did not deviate...went along very well so I will not bore you to death with that...

Thanks to all who assisted me in recommendations and also pcd1964/txtanker for some weathering tips which I will be using..

Hello all. NEMESIS4U, your Sherman tank looks great. Thanks for posting the build[sm=thumbup.gif]. I just ordered the Tamiya Serman tank. I should be getting the kit by the end of this week
. Being this kit is my first to build and own, I have a few questions. Does anybody have any suggestions as to what accessories to buy for the tank, and where to buy them? Also, what is the best battery to use in the tank? Last but not least, Does the tank come with the .50 cal. machine gun for the turret? If not where would one find the piece? Thanks for your help, and sorry for all the questions[sm=confused.gif]. I am new to the scale tank R/C's.
Thanks again,
Chris

Yes the 50 Cal machine gun is included..I have not "detailed" my tank yet with it and THe really great place for accessories is Back Yard Armor aka "BYA" www.backyardarmor.com
If you want to "battle" you will need a Tamiya Battle Unit...BYA has these...all prices from BYA include shipping
You need paint, glue, and of course a 4 Channel Ground Frequency Radio and also a 6 Cell Battery for the Tank and charger...
I HIGHLY recommend a 3300 mah Battery as these will give you well over 1.5 hours run time on it... Plenty for battling...I usually go through 1-2 packs per meeting/Battle Day without having to worry about having to recharge more batteries while there..
Keep your questins coming...We are glad to help///
Last note GET BEARINGS as I did...BIG difference btw my SHerman and a Stock SHermans wheels in ease of rotation... Just my observation at the Sunday meeting I rolled a stock Shermans wheels and then mine....Big difference...

Nemesis, Thanks for the quick reply and help. I'm sure I will have a lot more questions when I start building the Sherman
. As far as the bearings go, I ordered the duratrax bearings from Tower Hobbies.
Thanks
Chris

THanks McclureMitch for the kind words
ProWeld is from Hobby Town USA...You may find it at your local hobby store (LHS),,, Check with them as there are many other Brand names...ask them for a thin clear plastic, ABS, butyrate glue that "welds" parts together...IT is inexpensive at about 2-3 dollars for a bottle...and I used 1 bottle to make/assemble 3 tanks...

Well, I'm in the painting stage of my Sherman tank build. I ordered a few parts from back yard armor, but haven't received anything yet. Do you have any experience with BYA? If so, how long does it usually take to receive the items?
Thanks again,
Chris

I have dealt with BYA on a few occassions...You will get your items..Usually when you order the items you order have an indicator (emoticon) that gives you an idea of the wait to get those items...soooo You will get them...I usually rec'd instock items within 5-7 business days (mon-Fri)....If you would like drop them an email and ask when it was or will be sent out... Dont worry Good Company to deal with...

BYA is big pain. it took me one and half month to get my parts. no email or phone reply if you left message.
I will not order from them anymore. I now order directly from Germany. it only took one week to get the parts after they ship it.
