How do these(towards bottom of page) look for upgrading the M5(want to keep <$100)
Some have good r/c inputs and options for "mixing....steer/skid"
Seems some of the $60-$80 ones will work....but how would I do turret rotation?

hello jstrat121 did'nt understand all of your question? was it on speed controllers if so they will work fine but you have to size speed controller to size of motors as in (watts) or in number of turns of a motor. use caution when buying a speed controller so that it is sized accordingly if not sized right it they could go up in smoke[:@] i'am looking at a vantek dual motor speed controller for my 1/9 abrams it came with what i think was 540 motors but was not big enough to turn the new gear boxes but now i'am using motors rated at a higher wattage, amps and higher voltage as in 12volts. as for the rotation of turret i have heard of using a geared servo motor for turret rotation i think some of the other guy's have done this? not shure but if they have they will let you know how they did it as said i'am in the process of up grading my 1/9 abrams i have already replaced gear boxes and motors next is the vantek dual motor speed controller then a new radio controller the only thing i connot replace (aford) is the new metal tracks i have priced them bya @ $650.00 without shipping so i'am not going to do that for this project[
] if your stuart is like my abrams the road wheels are very weak so one must be careful where they run them anyway hope you find what you need
the guy's on the forum are very helpful and knowledgeable
(bailed me out a time or two and was very helpful)
good luck on your stuart

Thanks for reply!
Do you happen to know the size(watts/windings) for both the Stuart and 1/9 Abrams(540?)?
The relays appear to be rated for 10amps.
I have both tanks, and would love to upgrade with an ESC. (the guy on foxflier has never returned my e-mails[&o])
Vantec is a little out of my $$$$ range.
I think I would like to keep original motors and gearboxes also.
Think either of these would work in Stuart or Abrams?

hello again jstrat121 as near as i can figure a 540 motor would have approx.10-14 turns of wire on the on armature they rate motors by turns on armature. ratio to watts witch is the real power used by motor in this case it is a dc power source normaly a 540 dc motor might pull or use appox. 1.5-3 amps normal load not under big strain[:@] and again depends on how much voltage is used [>:] as i said earler my setup will require a much bigger esc but i'am using bigger motors bigger gear boxes in your case if you use the same gear boxes and same motors
you might be able to use a esc that is rated appox. up to 12-15 amps and be safe with it
most speed controllers i have been exsposed to like a novak for example will give a rating of max amps of 12-15 @ say 7.2dc volts or more. something i noticed with my abrams it had 2 voltage resisstors on the electronic controll board to protect the motors from overload but i could not use with new esc as said some esc will have a built in overload protection
if you choose a dual esc i think will work better for your application i have read on the forum that a guy was selling a real good dual motor esc on ebay but it was used
i looked at robot market place and found some good dual motor esc and at a good price
from what i read about them they have two ways of controll first was single stick witch would be a mix digital controll as know as waubble stick type or secondly was dual stick controll witch is two sticks one for each motor left or right
i chose to go with the first type so i could use the other for different controll of turret ect.
the most thing i 'am tring to do with my abrams is to keep the cost down
i have found alot of parts from salvage yards to copping machines
at this point of up grade i'am tring to save up for the vantek esc
$262.00[
]but i guess it will be worth it when i get done with it
i look at it as a good investment to have a good running true r/c tank i will try to keep everbody up dated on progress
i also found a way to replace the drive sprockets also with metal ones any way with your stuart if you are going to try keep it as stock as possible the internal components diffenatly need replaced my abrams electronics quit on mine
thats why i have to replace them and gear boxes went out
but any way good luck with your stuart if i can help in any way just hallar
