Help with crystals ??
#1
Hope to get some info on crystals that will work for the HL controls.I was reading on one of the other posts that REDHAWK crystals worked on the HL transmitter and receiver boards. Not knowing anything about crystals,I ordered some that are FM 27 mhz from tower hobby.I assumed that if they were FM 27 mhz they were the same. Also assumed that (27.195,27.145,)would just be different chanel's in the same freq-range.I'm up-grading a tiger to smoke and sound and put a RedHawk 27.145 into my receiver board, took the crystal out of one of my smoke and sound transmitter's and put in the tx 27.145 in.It turns on the sound, all the turret functions work properly. The problem is the motors to the tracks only partly work.I'm at a loss here as to why.Hope to mabe get an answer from someone who knows about crystals as to why this is taking place. Thanks BIGMIG [:-][:-][:-]

hi bigmig the crystals sound ok to use as the hobbico redhawks are the same as swathdivers and he reports all ok.
next question sounds like your transistors have fried what board you got the trouble with tk-rx13 or tk-rx 14?
big differences on the boards so will need to know

Hi,it's a rx-13 board.it is a new board I had ordered a while back from Mato. BIGMIG
One more thing i just thought of,is there a front abd a back to these guys.can you put them in backwards and cause them to not function properly.

no the crystals can go in either way round and if it was the crystals you wouldnt get any life out of the tank.
Silly question but have you wired the the motors to the right place on the board?
Did you remove the wire coming from the on/off switch to the receiver board as this has been known to cause probs with the transistors.
iam having similar probs at the moment with 2 of my rx-13 boards and have now re-placed with the newer tk-rx14 boards Pm me if you want to know where i got them and i'll give you his e-mail addy
but first if it is the transistors they are relatively cheap and fairly easy to re-place just got to find out which one /all is gone
on the picture the red box shows where the transistors are undo the ally plate via the four screws and get them re-placed im no electronics genius but we have a few on here that might know where you can get re-placement ones from as im still waiting to hear about mine

Not a silly question about wires being in the right place at all.I even question myself on if I have the power wires going to the right place on this board.I'm almost ready to open up one of my other tanks to do a comparrision on the wiring. It acts like it is not getting the power to all the proper places.I did not hook up the white wire. Will post some pictures of the board, although my camera is not the best.Tried it inside and outside to keep the flash from working but they don't look that clear. Thanks--I will PM you a little later.

Just went to look at the board again while these pictures were loading. On the board right below where i have the wires soldered, there are 4 sets of (three pins sticking up) and the places I have the wires go to the center of each of the three pin combination.Hope i'm making sense the way I have tried to explain this.----------

I once found a place to order the replacement transistors, cost wise it was the same and less hassle to just buy new boards. Someday it'll pay to replace them, once HL stops making them. I don't remember where, maybe it was Mouser Electronics.

I opened up my bulldog and I have everything wired the same as it.If it's not the crystal, then Mato sent me a junk board. Also opened up the new PZ III and it has the latest new style board where the motor wires plug in.That was no help for the rx-13 board, but nice to know it must be a later version tank.
