Default Tracer rounds

Greetings All

It's been almost a year since the last time I visited this forum and all I have to say is WOW.
I've been running RC tanks ever since the Marui Tank Group first started years ago.
The use of tracer rounds caught my eye and I was wondering if anyone tried installing a clear LED light inside the BB magazine to keep the rounds charged with light or is this not necessary ?
I have tons of reading to do to get caught up ,however as soon as Creeping death comes out with a converted Bulldog I'll be getting one.

I think it's been tried, with varying degrees of success. It's probably hard to get enough even power on the BBs to get them bright enough to see.
A big factor is using the right light source. White LEDs are apparently a poor choice: http://glowinc.com/glow-in-the-dark/light-source.aspx
UV LEDs sounds like they would be best for our tanks.

Wow! Tracer rounds ... I never would have thought of that. I wouldn't mind having an air soft tank if that could be pulled off.

That's some great thinking!

So you all know the tracer rounds aren't very bright. I used them for airsoft and unless its really dark out you won't notice them. They have a similar appearance to a dim glow stick. Your light source needs to illuminate the bb's about to shot as they loose their charge pretty quickly!

Good Luck!!

Creeping death tanks have tracer round capability. There is a bluish white light in the magazine area of the turret.I find on mine you cant rapid fire need to give the rounds a few seconds to"charge up" But sure looks cool at night with the laser light then the glow in the dark B.B's firing.

Crosman glos are the best all around bbs I've tested. Wouldn't a UV LED be better then a light to charge the bb up?

Here's some pics into the Creeping Death Tiger turret. I haven't opened it up, but you can see into the turret when the barrel is all the way down. I don't know if it's UV or not, but it gives a purpleish glow like a black light, and it does a good job charging the Crosman Glow bbs

You're right Kenny, the light is a bit annoying. I just raise the barrel until it's blocked again. If you come up with a solution let us know. How's your recoil working? I got some silicone lube as they recommend, but it seems like you have to give it a spray every 15-20 shots or it starts sticking.

Looks like a piece of foam or cloth material is needed to fill that gap in.

I need to look into more on this. Tracer round fire from a tank is just too much of a temptation.

It's really not all that bad, and like I said, the light only really shows when the barrel is at max down elevation. If you raise the barrel it blocks the light. That's an interesting article Darkith posted. Creeping Death may be using a black light in their tracer system... my camera battery is charging now, but I'll try to post a video of it shooting later tonight.

That would be great to see! [sm=thumbup.gif]
