I'm thinking I'd do my Pantiger in Tamiya's Dark Yellow with Red Brown and Dark Green camouflage pattern. Can anyone recommend a good online source for Tamiya paint? Also do any of these colors come in rattle cans? I've got an airbrush, but sometimes a rattle can is just morre convenient. Thank you!

Bob I use www.ehobbies.com , they are fairly quick and very reliable. The hobby shops in Memphis has to order them so it is easier to get online. Really haven't shopped to see if there are cheaper places - I'm happy with their service.

My LHS usually doesn't have a lot in one color, so I always turn to [link=http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/WTI0095P?FVSEARCH=tamiya+paint&search=Go]TOWER HOBBIES[/link] for ALL my radio and paint needs.

This is my source, they sell the 23ml bottles for less then I pay for the 10ml bottles from my local hobby shop, have the rattle cans but I have not purchased any cans from them, fast shipping and great prices for air brushes and other painting accessories. http://www.coastairbrush.com/categories.asp?cat=92

I believe Tamiya paint is considered a hazardous substance and is not supposed to be air mailed. I live in Hawaii and everything I need is shipped airmail. A Mato tank takes about a month to get here. You guys on the mainland are lucky to get such quick service all the time!

I've been there in 2001 so I would wait for long shipping times just to live there.

Tower Hobbies has been the best source of Tamiya paints for me. They usually have all the correct colors instock. Mind you I beleive there are some slight shade differences between the spray can paint and the jar paint in my opinion.

That is an excellent point and I'm glad you mentioned that. I noticed the rattle cans are synthetic lacquer, while the bottles are acrylic. This probably explains a slight difference in shades of the same color.Based on that, I'll probably just stick with the bottles.
Do I need to purchase a thinner to go with the acrylics also? If so, which one? Thanks again for your earlier responses, most helpful.

tonkey you would be best served to stay with the Tamiya thinner for your Tamy paints. They can be thinned using water but I have had better results using thier thinner. Just watch your mix as the thinner is mostly alcohol I think so it can dry fast. Even while you are airbrushing it on. That sometimes can be good if you are just trying to get a little primmed effect or a dusting of color but not good for a base coat that really needs too adhere well.

tam paints are alcohol based and water soluble not water based i use surgical alcohol as thinner and it works great as thats basicly what the tam thinners are

Bob,
I've used Tamiya dark yellow and find that its a bit too green. I'd recommend priming the tank in light gray and use Tamiya desert yellow instead of the dark yellow. IMHO it makes the yellow look more realistic.
I generally get my paint from Tower. They are rarely out of stock and always have the 3/4 ounce bottles.<br type="_moz"/>

Thanks Jeff and everyone. Is there a Tamiya grey that matches what's on the HLTiger1? Icould use this under the desert yellow and use the grey for details on the Tiger. Or is that grey too dark?
