Hello all, finally had some time to get back to my Tiger project. In the pictures below I've written what I'm basically inquiring. Is that dip in the front shield a heng long thing, or is this semi accurate to the design of the Tiger? Also, how many degrees should that slope be on the top sides of it. I see that the Heng long barely has this. Reason I ask is that I find it may be easier to fabricate the entire piece rather than trying to carefully cut the machine gun mantle out as well and the.....what ever that peep hole area is called? Just need to know if that dip in the heng long version is based on accuracy or if this was just another measure to avoid legal issues.
Also, the fenders. Particularly this type. It appears that the fender is made of 2 parts. One curved sheet and then a grate that lays over it. Is this a 2 part fender that folds at each joint or is it one curved fender that is hinged to the body? Also, are these hinges or riveted bracket......please for my sake, tell me some good news. I don't think I could stomach any more hinges on this tank! lol
Thanks in advance for any help received!

Found some info for you. It appears that the mud guards you see in the picture are a very early type of May 1942. They were made of what we would call diamond deck. There are three textures they were made from. Diamond vertical, diamond horizontal and a square like material. It was also after this that the hole was made on the glasis near the fender. This was for a jib boom that was used to remove the sproket. Some say it was used for a pole to hang cammo from, but I found otherwise.
As for the resess, I have no idea. The taper you drew might...might be the angle the picture was taken from.
Hope this helps
Don

Thanks Chief!
I think i get it. So the fender isn't a wire grate? More like a diamond plate on a tool box? That kind of sucks.
Thanks for the info on the holes by the fender. Was wondering what the hell those were for on my tank. Although I can't visibly see the holes on this particular tank from the few resource pictures I have, I have diagram drawings that show otherwise. Not sure where to go on this one.

Here is some pics one of a real Tiger and mine. I used Plastruct N gage train diamond plate also a doll house piano hinge. That was a first attempt. You have to heat it a little and bend slightly. Didn't notice the mess up til painted. Check carefully before hand.

Sweet!Thanks alot Richard.
That's an awesome photo and extremely clear! I can even see the tool brackets which is going to come in handy. Had no idea styrene came in diamond pattern and Iwork with it frequently. As for the dollhouse hinges......yes sir, that's the route I'm going this time around. Creating my own has proven to be not worth the time and only adds frustration to my project.
Those wing nuts on the side of the machine gun turret. What are they for and how exactly should they be placed? Surely they don't just hang off to the side with no rhyme and reason?

the two wing nuts either side of the mg mount are to mount a waterproof cover for deep wading, they consist of two "u" shaped brackets with the wing nuts hinged at the botton

@thebronze~ I ended up ordering the plastruct tread plate last night, so once again there is another delay to getting one step closer to completion.
@daisycutter~ I kind of figured that may be a moulding sink mark, but it looks so deliberate, I couldn't be sure. Thanks for the info on the wing nuts. So basically there used in the fashion pictured in the photo tailend charlie posted. Anyone have any close ups of this area?
