RE: Tamiya Panzer IV build
Bob,
yes, Marty and I will be there this weekend and we can not wait to battle the tanks. I am looking forward to how the Panzer IV performs.
Now, back to the Panzer IV, here is the initial weathering process, I repainted the turret numbers and began the weathering process with chipping certain areas and a pin wash. The chipping was done with a piece of foam using Testors model master paints: rust and gun metal. The pin wash was black paint diluted with Future floor wax. If you have any questions about this techniques, just ask.
I try not to drone on and on about techniques as most I have learned from here or the exceptional book by Mig Jimenez; "F.A.Q."
I hope you enjoy the pics, tomorrow I will post more pics of the final weathering and the results.
thanks, Will

RE: Tamiya Panzer IV build
Here are some pics of the completed Panzer IV, its been a really great and fun build and I really like how the tank has turned out.
The build went together without any major problems and if a modeller was so inclined could backdate this tank to an ausf H or even a ausf G.
If you want a great medium tank for your collection, i highly recommend this great tank!
So far it drives really well and I think it is a great performer around the house and I think it will do just as well on the battlefield!
I hope you like the pics, if you want more just ask and I can post!

Hi,
Not to jack your threat, I took an informal Tamiya Pz4 count and during the search I found a couple posted in Germany including this incredible master class Tamiya Pz4 build:
http://mmodell.de/forum/index.php?pa...&threadID=1587
I believe ksoc from SCAT has one built now, but I have not seen it. Maybe he will post photos when it is on the battlefield? I traded email with Daryl Turner last week and he mentioned he has the kit, but not started yet. For sure they make great Christmas presents and that 's how I got mine (combined birthday & Christmas present) and would like to build another also, maybe as a Lang. Again, that is one beautiful Pz4 you have built.

Excuse my ignorance on this subject but why is there zimmerit on the turret schurzen? Seems like it would be a waste as a shaped charge is already defeated by the standoff distance. I haven't seen any pic's of PIV's with it there before. I am sure tons of people will post pic's of it now.

All,
Here are some pics of the Panzer IV at Danville, Had a great time there and even got to meet another Panzer IV driver from TX!
Unfortnatley before Danville I discovered the my mounted emitter did not work, so I had to go with the stock setup. The tank performed very well and I am more than pleased with it.
I plan on many more battles with this fine medium tank!
Also I attached a pic of a KV-2 at Danville! a very nice tank!

WOW! First KV-2 pic I have seen from a club battle! Perhaps it has jolted me from my Germanic trance.
Will - Why didn't my Tiger 931 get a weathering job like you did on that PZ IV? I feel short changed! lol
Also, I am supposed to be the "Russian Guy" at my local club and now you have me representing the archenemy of Russian tankers, the dreaded Totenkopf Division.. The tank has now managed to get a grip on me and even forced me to change my avatar.. What have I done? I think I am turning to the Dark Side..
Your old Tiger might be like one of those cursed objects on the old TV series, Friday the 13th! It put up a good fight before finally accepting the gear down units and most recently the recoil unit broke. I think its even talking to me know, saying "Fix me, fix my gun". The other night I put one of my magnetic Russian stars on the tank and it popped right off! I don't think she likes those Russian stars being put on her.. I think I hear her calling now, "Fix me, fix me!".. Oh my God! Will, Help!! HAL Help!!

Be calm, little one, be calm. Don't fight it, accept the Dark Side......join us....come to the realm of the Black Cross....
On your gear downs, found your problem. I was working on a set of Type 1's like you have, and found the inner frame bent slightly, only the other way than yours...to wit, the entire gear down/motor assembly was up, not down. Made an interesting noise, too...so I looked at the photo of yours and instantly understood the problem. Never saw that before though, and I've done Type 1's for years. Interesting.

RE: Tamiya Panzer IV build
RSEA and Bob,
yesterday night I replaced Tamiya connectors with DEANS. After that I tried the setup to check if I had fried the MF or DMD units.
So hear the roar of the BEAST! In comparison to pathetic Tiger's whinning sound, it is makinkg you **** your pants.
What side are you talking about now? Brown? The one that used to be black?

I think I'm still on the Black Cross side, not the brown underwear side. I don't scare easy.
Nothing like listening to your KV driver swearing and using the factory supplied hammer to beat the transmission in to reverse to get away from me. Tell me, does the wind blowing through all those 8.8cm holes I put in your turret bother you, you know, the whistling sound the wind makes? I can put some more if you like, to make the breeze more soft.
And stop scratching my paint with your little pop gun! My Commandeer is getting angry! And my Hauptmann says he will send you the invoice for the headlight glass you broke on my Tiger also. RM2 and 16 pfennigs. Pay up!

When I reverse mounted the drive pinions on the motor shafts last month I found one of them didn't want to easily slide on to the motor shaft (in non-reverse orientation they both slid on and off with ease). I had to tap it on with a small hammer. Now, even after completely loosening the set screw that pinion is firmly stuck on the motor shaft, as if it was a force fit pinion. I tried to remove it early this month to test another size pinion, but I can't get it to come off. Only managed to budge it slightly. I'd need a pinion puller to remove it now.
Not to worry Emperor Sevo, once I start seeing more KV tanks on here and watch a few Hotforwords videos, I'll be back on HAL and Eugene's team again

RE: Tamiya Panzer IV build
Steve,
Go ahead if you want to get those russian heavies that are slow and cumbersome while the panzer IV drives circles around the Gigant, while providing new vision ports for you !! LOL
but seriously never once did the Panzer IV throw track, even with all the Virginia clay in the suspension. It just kept coming, a true test to German engineering! (well, in this case, Japanese engineering from Tamiya!)
So Steve enjoy the Tiger 931, accept your fate, if you were true to mother russia, my Tiger would not have found you for a home!!
All kidding aside, this was my first real attempt at weathering other then just a wash and some drybrushing. I like the results and will do more weathering like on the Panzer IV on my future projects.
Attached are a couple of pics for a size comparison of the Tiger and Panzer IV, a smaller faster moving target is harder to hit!
Also is a pic of my three Tigers, Ol' 931 is no longer in the line up but a new steel wheeled version of 931 will replace the older rubber wheeled one!
But that Tiger is a delayed for a while, as I depart for a 6 month tour in Kuwait on Wednesday, hopefully I will still be able to stay updated on the forum, and plan my next build!

Hey Will, as I recall, you have one of those slow and cumbersome Russian heavies! lol.
It was more affordable for me to go with a used German, instead of a new Russian tank. I guess my ending up with your particular German tank was fate haha.
I just discovered today that I left all my spare tracks and some tools at our last club event. At this point, I don't know where they ended up..
I hope that your Kuwait tour goes well for you. You need to return so that you can replace the vacancy left by ole 931.
