Have you decided what too do about your speak Tony? I really dont know what else you can do, but I do know the Tamiya units do have what you called ( a sweet spot). Like I said before you should find it around 80% volume as per Tamiya. But like I said before my Panther sounds really good at all volumes. The box is quite large even compared too the Tiger speaker box.  Once you get the hull layout done maybe you can shew horn in a larger custom made box. If you go this route just remember too use some padding inside the box and vent it well. Speakers need too breath inside there enclosures.

Greg, I've been pondering a custom made box for the Pershing to add more room. I've test fitted everything in there from the battery to the motors....and really, I wanted to cry. It's so tight in there that it would make a virginenvious.
So here's my thoughts. Create a custom box that will be elongated rather then go from one side of the hull to the other, therefore (hopefully) improving the sound a bit and the speaker box will also house the DMD and MFU. But, I don't know if I want to take the DMD/MFU out of it's housing and possibly jeopardize my warranty.
But your right, the sound is best at roughly 80%. At full peek it's a bit distorted, but outside, it's not thatnoticeableunless your right by it. Otherwise, the sound is good, don't get me wrong...but I would like it if the sounds were a little less digital.

Tony, it is never really a good idea too put the electronics too close too a speaker as the MAGNET on the speaker can have adverse effects on the electronics.

That's true, but I wasn't intending on it being next to the speaker without some form of a barrier. I may scratch that whole idea though. It's waaaayyy to tight in there to fiddle around with stuff, besides I'm sure the Tamiya developers spent long hours coming up with the set up that it is before settling on this being the best solution. So I may just be painting myself into a corner! lol

Thanks Karel! I especially like the picture with the Pershing texture glaring in the sunlight! It really shows the various texture really well! The verticle casting marks on the turret by the star are kind of new to me, never noticed those before....not sure if those are repair welds.

yes even when you see different pics of the same type tank you always discover something you haven't noticed earlier, i found a panther G with the caliope from the A or D version and diti exhaust pipes , yes the a type one never had seen that either, foto's are full of surprises ... enjoy them

Seriously, someone post me the guts of their Pershing please! Preferably a clean install! Wire installation is just not my thing, while I'm sure I can get this done....it very, very frustrating. The only solution that I can come up with with out having a bundle of wires zip tied is to start snipping away!! <div>

i would say put everything out and reinstall everything according the plan, its better than put a wrong contact into somewere where it not belongs, it can destroy the contact by put electricity on be awere

lol! The problem wasn't the look of the crows nest after I got everything installed, it was getting everything installed in the first place!!! lol
But I'm getting there. This by far is the most challenging part of the build....I can't believe it.

I cut the speaker box down in my pershing and left out the mounting plate that the DMD and MF units sit on to try and create some more space also I cut off the tamiya conectors and used a choc block connector to wire both units to a tamiya plug
I cut off the tamiya bullet connectors and hard wired the motors directly to the DMD

So....what happened to the sound when you reduced the size of the speaker enclosure? Nice idea using the terminal block. I too am using that for wiring the DMD and MFU together so I can get rid of that Y adapter and additional plugs. Thanks for posting your guts! lol

At this scale the size of the enclosure won't noticably affect the sound volume. It may have slight differences in quality. The best thing to do is use the stock box and find a high grade speaker that fits. Also make sure the ohms rating is the same. you would want a speaker with a high db. level. Sound pressure for those who don't know. This can affect the overall sound quality which can be perceived as being louder.

Yeah, I just played around with the speaker a little bit ago, by closing one of the vents that allow sound to escape. The pitch got louder and the bass was moderately affected. Then I closed up both ports....there wasdefinitelya difference in sound quality. It didn't do anything to the volume, but the bass was almost gone. I think I'll leave the enclosure alone.
