RE: Offical Mugen MBX5T thread
hey guys
i`m new to the truggy scene. i ordered my prospec last night from my LHS.
i want to start racing soon and my savage and t maxx just don`t cut it on the race scene.
i put it on layaway. i won`t have it for a few weeks yet. i just read all the pages here.
hopefully i`ll have it by the end of the month. stay tuned i`ll be back here with build questions i`m sure.
first thing i saw was the hitec 645 won`t cut for steering. i have one in stock. is that servo ok for T&B.
looks like i`ll be ordering a new servo for steering. i still didn`t pick out a power plant yet. first i want to get the
truck in my hands and build it before i pick out an engine. stay tuned. (pun)

Im using another 645 again for steering and no problem... the perfect balance, ballbearings and no binding materials make this servo work perfect... its holding the wheels in tight turns like buggy style..

Well I found your problem. It's the servo. Dump it and get a servo with at least 200 oz-in of torque. If you get a good kit, you're gonna need good servos.

hey guys
last night after my good news i went right down
to my lhs and paid off the prospec.
i thought it would be at least a few weeks before i had the money together.
it should be in by next thursday. he is even pushing the racing dates up
until the middle of july so i`ll have time to build and break it in.

Is the 5T geared low? I switched my OS .21 VG from my Muggy to my 5T and I'm noticing that the top end is just not quite the same. I realize that the Muggy is geared very high for a truggy but I've also geared it down some from stock. It doesn't bother me, I was just curious. I have no intentions of setting top speed records!

Any of you ever burnt up the motor(s) in your starter box? I was using my quite a bit yesterday and the motors are now very weak even with a full charge. I just bought this Ofna 10249 last week. Think this is warranteed?

It's not the motor, it's the fact you're trying to start with the stick packs. They suck!! Get a 12v 7Ah battery and you'll have the torque you need and the motor won't heat up from being stalled.

I wasn't using stick packs. I use a 12v 7 amp acid battery. I used it all day and it worked great. The motors were very hot when I noticed they were losing power. The battery is fully charged and I'm still not getting much power out of them. It's like I have to give them a push just to get them to move. I suppose I'll call Ofna and see what they can do for me.

Has anyone made the 5T roto or pullstart? I've noticed that without using a completely different motor mount, it seems impossible?

Heck I use the mugen original off road starter for both mugen truggy and SP2 buggy. But on the other hand I have shimmed the motors in the box about an 1/8 ". Then cause of my mugen truggy having bigger tires I rigged some mounts on the bottom of the box so the tires don't touch the ground.I am still using the origanial stick packs I bought from Ace Hobbies, which is no longer in buisness online.

i picked up my prospec last night. i just thumbed thru the book last night.
i got everything laid out and i start building tonite. i did read all the back pages here and noted
everything like don`t use the s3 o rings in the diffs and stuff. i guess i`ll start with the stock set up and go from there.
i`m really at lost as to what diff oil to use and i think i`ll start with 5-10-3.
thanks to everybody who posted up here on build tips. its helps alot.

RE: Offical Mugen MBX5T thread
5-10-3 is a good diff setup.
I would recommend setting the truggy up with the setup provided with the truggy. It's a great starting place for the truggy. Also, before gluing the tires on, make sure you have the proper tires for your track. If the ones provided with the truggy aren't the correct ones, either use em as practice tires, or sell them.
Also, when setting the camber for the truck and everything, do it with just the wheels, no tires on it. This gives you more accurate readings for the camber.
Also, the stock wheel nuts can seize on the wheel extender(hex). In order to prevent this, buy some hellfire wheel nuts, and use these. They are hardened, and won't seize.
Another thing, make sure you install the hubs on the rear correctly. If they are installed wrong, the rear driveshafts will look like they are about to pop out. Also, they have a "tab" on them, this should point behind the car.
Hope this helps. Also, grease the diff gears(not the ones inside the diff, but the large gear, and the small one(pinion gear is correct name). I recommend Mugen Super Grease if you can get your hands on it.

5/10/3 is a good starting point, I have 7/10/2 in mine and it pulls well out of the turns. If you get the chance, double up the diff gaskets and use longer screws on the diff cups. Its a pretty straight forward build and show go very smoothly.
I bought lots of parts from ebay as extra incase I should break a arms, I have yet to break anything and have lots of extra parts.
Post pics once its done.
