I just get rid of my pullstart.

First i raced onroad (serpent 1:8) with a starterbox.

With the SS came a Picco P3 .28 with a pulstar , never liked it!!

I get rid of the spring inside and the pull cord, the one way bearing is stil in but can rotate now left and right.

The big advantage is that the engine can cool off with the piston in the lower side of cilinder (you can turn the flywheel by hand).

My next engine is certainly a "NON PULL" .

Nubz are a good all round tyre. Are you just bashing or racing? For racing there are better tyres but it also depends on the surface.

i need a new clutch on my Hellfire. Should I stick with the HPI one or is there a better one i can try.

thanks

RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread

My standard clutch and shoes lasted a long time, until i put the os28 on board. The clutch bell is a little soft but if meshed correctly will be ok.
If you have the k4.6 the 13t cb is a ok choice, 14t cb better.

RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread

Stussman, I bought a new 13T cb since the Ofna Picco engine that was in there before messed it up pretty badily. I have a brand new Axial .32 with JP-1 pipe/header that I started to break in. While on the first tank, the cluch seemed to engage without any throttle input from me. Upon close inspection, the throttle servo wasn't moving, but the clutch was engaging the cb. So I chalked it up to clutch being bad.

Now, if I change the clutch to a new one, and this still occurs, what else should I check? The idle is set correctly, hi and low needles weren't touched from factory settings. The only other thing I can think of is the receiver is glitching casing the throttle to engage on its own. I looked closely and didn't see this, but who knows.

Any other ideas?

Thanks,
Joe

Check your clutch bearings, springs etc, transmittor settings/trims,linkages,needles.
Is it moving as soon as your start it up or is it running ok and suddenly surges?

The hellfire has a poor turning radius, i think 1 direction turns better than the other. At truggyracers.com there is a large forum on the hellfire and the steering problem is discussed alot. Go back a fair way in the hellfire forum and you will find some possible remedies to the steering issue.
I had to grind a bit off the right side steering servo post as the the servo saver arms were hitting the post and i was unable to get full turn.
You do need a strong steering servo, at least 200 oz,also you need correct diff oils to help you turn, 5/10/3 or 5/7/3 is a good starting point.
Make sure your servo saver nut is fairly tight on the spring or your steering will be bad.

RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread

stussman, the car starts up and 30-45 seconds later it starts surging. My electronics don't move at all-with or without the engine running. I even turned off the electronics (idle was perfect) and the same surging occurred. This is why I am thinking the clutch or clutch springs are bad. Since I bought it used, I figured I might as well change the clutch to be sure.

Am I on the right track here? Any other thoughts would be appreciated.

RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread

Crazy****, if the engine revs up and down like it sounds angry maybe its running too lean or has an air leak somewhere causing it to run lean. Iam no expert though.
I know when i had my low speed needle to lean its idle was surging up and down.
Good idea to change your clutch and springs. That 32 with the 13t cb will have serious torque. Let me no how you go.

RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread

yeah the hellfire turns better in one direction but a overkill servo takes care of that with ease i got myself a ace ds 1015 its rated 14kg from manufacturer but has been tested to give a solid 21kg pull.

now it even turns sharply even with the overly heavy 7" goliaths witch are about a pound each.

Winner, iam happy to help you but not sure exactly what your after.
From your question i gather you want the measurements of the 3 hellfire parts? The links you provide for the 3 parts show the measurements?
So what do you want?

Hi Hellfire people,

I just bought a used HF and the track people are saying my HF will not be able to handle the toughness of the track and asked me to sell it. I guess I made a wrong purchse? Is the HF really that bad? Are they still a competitive truggy? I see HPI dropped the SS kit. Man i guess no one is buying it!!

Thanks

stussman 02-20-2008 06:03 AM

RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread

if you got the ss you will go ok but will not compete with the better truggies. U cant afford 1 mistake when racing the hf. There are way better truggies for the price, but it isnt as bad as alot say.
