Hi,

Ordered laser cutted Jerry Bates parts from states, will see when those are here. Spent same time figuring out 1,2 or 3 pcs wing. Decided to make 2 pcs wing and for landing gear speed connectors between legs and struts. Going  to make balsa build up wing with laminated glassfiber skins with details. Havent seen that done before, but this way i can be sure wing is good and details realistic. More work for sure. Idea is make flying wooden wing/plug sheeted with balsa. Then add packing tape on the wing. Hammer all the litho plates and details on. Glued with Bison contact glue. Make a mold from wing surfaces. Laminate glass skins. Take litho panels and packing tape away from wing. insert the wooden wing inside mold and close the thing. For gluing the skins, epoxy with foaming agent or lightly foaming polyurethane glue. So this way the wing should have nice details out of mold, not lightest but good details and strong wing. Thats the plan now. Got the tires and when i get my wood lathe back to home, make plugs for rims and partially for cowls nose ring. Hoping to get all wood works and alloy details done before summer, and do all the composite works on summer and outside. Epoxy is very bad for health so better do that outside, dont ask how i figure out that..

Been studying cowl area about 5hours today and made drawnings for templates. And all the time checked the Bates plans.
Finnish version have kinda sharper nose sections compared to U.S. version. And bit more curved cowl. Good thing is MVVS 152 IRS boxer engine fits inside cowl!! Lot of power and turns scale sized 3-blade with ease. And less than half the price compared to moki radial.
Its easier option to poor guy like me. Only very little right and down thrust can be added with MVVS 152. Peak power 20HP.
1kg/1hp ratio is possible. And she will need the nose weight for sure. So no dead weight for her thanks.
I need to make small modifications to Bates parts when those arrive. But for sure these plans are good base for project.
so havent been lazy here.. -J-

Three blades 29x12Nx3

MVVS 152 IRS 152cc, (9.28 cu inch) Boxer engine
bore 48mm, stroke 42mm,
weight 3740 grams (complete engine as shipped with sparkplug and ignition).
Ignition ICU-B (9.3 - 13V = 3S LiPo), weight is 210 grams
Fuel: petrol, unleaded 95 octane (US: unleaded premium gas 91 pump octane).
oil: Jaso FC+ two stroke fully synthetic racing oil. Mix at 1:40 (running in 1:30, during the first few gallons)
factory carb (Walbro WB27) needle setting: L= 3/4 (@ closed throttle,  H=7/8

Suitable mufflers are the Int80 by MVVS, TD110 or tuned pipes TP3 by MTW
MVVS has made a new back mount with solid standoffs for the 116cc engine , item 3365 ( picture 1 ; picture 2 )

Dimension drawing (PDF)
The engine is based on the 116cc crankcase, and the short stroke 80cc cylinder/piston design, with even further reduced stroke for most compact packaging. Crankcase parts however have been totally redesigned to fit the larger engine capacity, so they will not fit the 116cc engine.

A further devellopment of the very powerful 116cc along the shorter stroke philosophy, this engine is targeted at about 17 hp open exhaust sustained power, not useless peak peek readings which may exceed sustained power by 20%.
Suitable planes:
Scale (30 kilo) and glider tow planes of up to 25 kilo weight (55 - 66 lbs)
3D Aerobatic planes of 3.0 - 3,5 m
The engine as delivered includes oil, spark plug and ignition unit.
It also will be available with twin spark. (two spark plugs for each cylinder as shown on picture)

Thanks for the youtube clips. My father fought in the area north of Petroskoi and remembered seeing the Brewsters in action. He also remembers being strafed and bombed by IL2's . Tero T in Toronto

Understanding curvature of cowl took some time.. in bad pics u see how i figure it out. going to strip blank the cowl following the radius. 3mm balsa wetted and glued with wood glue. So Pertti you were right in some angles the cowl is almost straight.
specially on bottom side.

Cowl plug is wood ready. Shape is just like it should be. one more layer filler and final sanding. Going to close with balsa that front opening too before glassing.
Took about 25 hours to shape that plug. Machine gun covering need slight shapening still.
Sorry bad small pics. Site doesnt allowed to download big pictures.

Nice plug. You can upload larger pics then what you have done. Any increase would help in seeing what you have.
Keep up the good work!

width engine price

330mm MVVS 116cc 999€

340mm MVVS 152cc 1250€

304mm 3W 110cc1050€

340mm 3w 157cc 1345€

340mm 3w 170cc 1615€

320mm ZDZ 120cc 978€

320mm ZDZ 160cc 1222€

All boxers. Thinking something around 150cc would be better. Rumors tells 100cc engines are screamers in fat planes like Brewster.

Any experiences? Need to start saving. If iwould be rich Moki radial 250 for sure.. almost 3000€... so its not option at least now.

Those where good looking Buffalos also in Midway.
I just ordered premade screw jack with gear and motor. 950kg pull/push force. so i think it can handle hard landings. very compact. fits just perfectly.
now i need only 2 micro switchesand wiring and 12v battery for system. it will be heavy. Motor, gear and screw about 2kg.But motor will be just behind fire wall.
So it will be usefull nose weight. Im very sure the nose weight is needed no matter how heavy engine she will have.

Ok, retract motor, gear, screw jack, micro switches, controller in pic. And i have lipofor set.System is heavy about 4lbs, but mounted to fire wall its truly usefull nose weight. Its sostrong, it would notbe breaking point.
all the parts less than 100€. so its a deacent deal. push/pull force 950kghold 2000kg. LOL. With this system she will bedoing push upps, to keep the heat up.
Fits perfectly inside fuse. Movement is much more than needed. Limited with micro witches. So biggest problem is behind. This would work nicely in 1/3 scale too. but 1/4 she will be.

Click here for the real power graph using the MVVS 3204 canister mufflers. This is a field setup any modeller can reproduce.

The engine, based on the 58 prosport cylinder/piston design, is equipped with a unique mixture jetting control, the Cont-Jet System, which links the idle jet to the throttle lever. This adjusts the Walbro mixture between idle and half throttle. In most cases, there is only one needle to adjust!
In addition, a lot of engineering went into internal mixture flow balancing to get the cylinders load balanced and avoid one cylinder running hotter than the other. This work resulted in a unique design called Air System (entry flow control manifold) to balance the mixture to both cylinders, and thus provide silk smooth operation. This also is the main reason for the massive power output and extremely low vibration levels. Looking at the induction manifold exterior shape gives an impression of the effort put into the design of this engine.

Just made order for this motor. This engine turns scale size prop 27x10x3 blade nicely. Finnish Brewster had quite small prop 274cm.
so 1/4 is 68,5cm or 26,97inch. -J-

Made modifications to plans. Maybe the early Brewsters doesnt match to plans perfectly. Nose hight need to change almost 2cm. Canopy needed to move a bit to aft and windscreen to deeper angle.  Belly profile is more curved. Small changes to fuse frames no 1 to 4.
Fin shape was very good.Took almost 3 hours check the shape. 46inch lcd tv connected to pc is huge help in here. Tape plans on screen and edit pc plans, pics to correct scale. Going to draw hatches and panel lines to plans with same method.

Hi,
updated engine... Changedthe order from mvvs116 to DLA 112. Reason: There is no room for rear carburator. And just room for retract motor where its wanted. So front as possible. Need to redesign frames 1 to 3. No big deal. Pic fopefully explanes a bit. Retract and screw will be angled 10 degrees asis the gear movement. Andall the weight is where it needs to be - front. Green areas are corrected to match finnishversion. Small details need to addlater.

Cheers
