Looks very nice Wherewaldo! Due to the lack of posts on this forum I'm thinking you may have the only one of this version of a KMP Spitfire out there so far. I don't even see them for sale on the web! Could this be a prototype? Anybody know when we might see more of these? Just wondering...

well thanks Zoomflier...going to start the engine this Sunday....hopefully maiden it a week after weather permitting
and yes your right come to think  of it!...I have not seen another one completed as well....mine was purchased at a local hobby shop by chance...there is not even a spitfire advertised on their site..let alone this version!

well Steve the weather was not great last Sunday ....so i will break the engine in this week and to maiden it next week on Sunday or
Monday ...let you know how it works out....will have video evidence ...it is a nice looking spitfire!...want to keep it like that!..fingers crossed for good luck!

DO NOT buy the upgrade board for the electric retracts from esm they don"t fit  and the pin bolt can't take the speed of the knew board!
am now waiting for the knew upgrade should be here in a few weeks...hope they fixed it right!
gonna fly the maiden with the wheels locked in the down position...

I have the privledge of being personally acquainted with a Spitfive pilot that participated in the invasion. He told me the night before the invasion the stripes were put on with anything available including mops and brooms. The nice neat sharp stripes we put on our models are wishful thinking, at least for those planes that were in service at the time of the invasion.
Personally, I have always thought someone in the British High Command had a brother-in-law that owned a paint factory and Ike was prevailed upon to paint the planes with the stripes. Like the Germans didn't have the formula for balck and white paint!

the spit had its maiden flight yesterday....it was a success !!
it flew beautifully .very predictable...landed on full flaps with a cross wind ...tract nicely
the cg point on this spit was at 6 in from leading edge...took 5lbs 0f weight to balance her
that sounds like alot of weight but the total weight for this plane is 23.5lbs...dle55 swinging a 22*8 prop
the new electric gear from esm is better...they come up in around 10 sec
but i recomend not dealing with this company on the electric retracts...too many initial prob...i hope mine keep working
all and all a blast to see it fly!

The planes manufacturer is actually vantex.....just so ppl know. They are currently sold thru hobbyking, cozmiktoys and a few other places in Europe and have been for sometime.

Did you type correctly about adding 5 pounds of lead in the nose to balance the Spitfire with DLE 55 up front???

yes 5lbs of weight ...sounds like alot I know ..but thats what it needs ..

People who have built the ESM 50cc have also added several pounds of ballast up front. Its the nature of the spitfire design. The real plane had 133+ pounds.
Btw....I took delivery of my Hobbyking 50cc(still made by vantex) on Wednesday. Mine is not the invasion stripe version like Waldos, but other the paint scheme....is the exact same plane.

Just finished an ESM Spitfire 89" ws. With a 4.2 Sachs, I needed an additional 3 lbs. of weight in the nose to make it slightly nose heavy. Put servos in tail and comlpete paint redo. Did not trust elevator bellgrank design. Plane weighs in at 27 lbs 7 oz. Maiden flight this weekend. Paul

Paul, did you have any issue while assembling your ESM Spitfire? Example; pre-drilled hinge points, aileron profiles,elevator counter balances, and engine mount cylinder;just to name a few of the problems I encountered with my ESM 55ccSpitfire assembly.

Yea, had to relocate aileron hinge pins. Add ends to flap and ailerons to close gap. Match and trim aileron ends to wing. A few other odds and ends but not too bad. This is my first ESM and pretty happy with the quality. A bit heavy though. Some club members have the Corsair, LA7, and T28's and are happy with the flying characteristics of ESMs. Hope the Spit is the same way. I'll let you know and take some more pictures after the maiden. Paul

My 1/5 scale ESM fw-190D9 weighs 24+ pounds and flies like a dream. Doesnt fly heavy at all...actually rather floaty when trying to land....and its only 82.5" wingspan.

My Hobbyking Spitfire(same exact plane as the KMP just different paint scheme) is the same size as then ESM. I expect it to weight around 20-23 pounds depending on ballast needed. I am sure it will fly very well also.

My 3W 80cc with pitts muffler weighs 6 lbs, twice that of DLE 50. That will allow swinging a big Mej 24x12 3blade up front and nice speed runs.
Wonder how much cowl hacking will need to clear the 80cc beast.
Please show pics of yours with motors bigger than 50cc. What's the deal with bellcrank linkage to elevators? That does not sound good for big gas set up.

I would never use a bellcrank on an elevator surface. I have a good number of ESM planes and have never seen a bellcrank designed for use on any of the flight control surfaces.
