RE: ESM FW D-9
Thanks N8, I wanted to proof her and fly this last weekend but everything came up. I still have a lot of small details to add. I hope to have a completed; outdoor picture here soon and some flying video. How's yours coming now that the 109 has been completed?
No pressure..lol

Not really. Some material was removed from the wing skins to accommodate for the size in order to properly retract without binding, but nothing major had to be done.
I don't remember exactly, but I think I removed 1/4 inch around the sheeting.

Thanks, Ram.
I seem to be getting into trouble with the wheels hitting the inside of the leading edge beam. You probably have a slightly different angle on the mounting of the retracts. I centered the wheel axle in the center of the original wheel well opening. Alternatively, I could go with wheels slightly smaller than 5 1/4".
Cheers

So what is the final consensus regarding the gun hood? Is it actually removable if carefully pried away evenly? Looking at pics in some previous posts, the hood appears to have it's own seperate top formers.

There are no formers on the plastic gun hood that is attached to the model.
Thanks

RE: ESM FW D-9
Thanks for responding, can you scan the assembly book and email it to me.
I have most finished but I am lost on the tailwheel assembly, it seems I am missing some parts to mount it.
regards David R

Thanks Kahlog
The mount provided in the kit is a flat mount with nothing provided to attach it to the fuselarge so something is missing.
it was a display model in a shop so i guess the parts are missing. What you did looks robust so I will go that way.
Did you have any problem with the elevator push rod. There are no bulk head supports inside so the push rod can flex under load.
I had a similar set up on a previous model (Great Planes Extra 300S) where the rotation arc of the elevator servo causes the elevator push rod to flex sideways at full travel causing the elevators flex like ailerons. However on that model the push rod split was 100 mm from the servo. Most disconcerting to pull out of a tight loop into a spiral dive but predictable

RE: ESM FW D-9
Just wanted to throw the question in here for you guys as im trying to put info together before building. How many of you in here put right thrust in their motor setups. Particularly if you ran the xyz 53cc twin. Will Right thrust be necessary? thanks in advance.

BTW...on the fw-190 d9, I just pried the gun hood off. Didnt really take that long on mine, but a few spots were really glueed on(or had excess dried paint) holding those sections down. I got the hood off in one piece, however, I did get a few small cracks around the perimeter. Nothing more then a couple mm's, so I only really need to add some glass cloth with minwax to the back of the entire piece and it'll be good to go.
All in all...took me about 10mins to get the gun hood off

DavidR I also glued in some supporting braces on the push rods for the 109. I don't like flex in the elevator push rods. Not a great idea! Unless you fly slow and have little loading on the elevators, which isn't the way to fly a 109! lol

RE: ESM FW D-9
Got a little bit done on the D9. Primer painted the fuse and installed the motor to test standoff lengths. As close to perfect positioning as Im gonna get it.
Rimfire 65cc. The prop in the pics wont be the one used for flying...its just there to look good. Its too small at a 20x12 size.
.....Pics wont load RCU being grumpy......

Yes I did get the package. Thank you.
As for the battery setup, I have them on hand already. Two 6s 6000mah 30c turnigy batts for a 12s 6000 setup.. The gun hood is obviously the access point. Im betting for CG reasons, the batteries will only need to sit right over the wing, however, I can easily move them forward since there's a ton of room. The esc will more then likely be mounted on the firewall to get as much airflow as possible.
I wont be able to get much done on the plane for a couple weeks since my son's HS graduation happens next friday and we have lots of relative/friends/guests coming to town for the next 2 weeks.

RE: ESM FW D-9
I think someone asked about right thrust. I've never used it and have tried to remove it from various arfs ect. Because I like the spinner and prop to fit on the front of the plane like the scale aircraft on which it is based.
So...no, you don't need right thrust built into either the firewall or engine mount.
Someone else asked about retrofitting Sierra gear into IMP kit. I've had that kit and the Sierra gear sitting on a Plymouth Roadrunner since Christmas of 2000. It will work. Why? Because you are skilled at such installations. ...
But the next project is a 500 plus cubic inch motor for the plymouth.
Hope to maiden a ESM stuka this weekend.
