If I knew this motor would fit, Id slap this in the D9. But oh wait...how many ppl would then b! tch at me for using a radial in a plane that had an inverted v-12??????????
It would definitely SOUND more realistic then any gas 2 stroke single/twin, but the scale police would be all over me.
Think of it...a 65cc FUEL motor / multi-cylinder / awesome sound!!! But... as soon as some know-it-all saw that it was a radial engine, they'd give me grief. ''dont you know that the D9 had an inverted engine???? Duh...only the original 190 has a radial. Laughing as the guy walks away.'' Not realizing I knew that already.

It was really in jest though. As much as Id love to put that ASP 400 5 cyl radial in the plane, Im quite sure A) it wont fit and B) $777 is another plane
Id rather get the me109 for that price(put that 50cc gasser in it) and keep with using the 65cc electric on the D9.
Plus.....ive got a few radial glow motors and...well....as yet that plane STILL hasnt flown for one reason or another.

Here's some detailed pics of that SDshobby fw-190 spinner. As you can see, its pretty accurate shape wise and its made of rather hefty aluminum. The backplate is pretty beefy and has a decent lip. The cone fits snug and you get a kind of nice snap sound when you seat the cone onto the backplate.
The prop shaft hole is drilled for 12mm and it has a bushing already installed to fit a 10mm shaft. You can see the silver aluminum bushing around the motor shaft of the rimfire motor. It comes with a bolt and a prop shaft adapter nut. However, the nut itself fits an 8mm thread, not 10mm thread. I simply ordered a 10mmx 1.25 xlong adapter nut from dave brown for $5.95
In the pic, the prop is a 20x12....and there is still clearance for bigger props so I dont have any doubts a 22x14 will fit.

RE: ESM FW D-9
kahlog,
Great spinner!
I have a spare pair of correct Swastika stencils sized for Red 3 that you are welcome to if they fit your intended scheme. They represent the largest version applied to the FW during the war. They were taken from the Crandall book . Send me your address and I will mail them out!
I have had great luck with the APC 20x8 E prop and will stick with it . Speed is lower but flight time has jumped to 8 minutes at reasonable speeds with a few high speed passes. Vertical performance is just right.
Regards,
Doug Andre

rather comical how those that pick fun at electric setups and think their gassers far outfly any electric simply dont understand....the electric is flying at half throttle just to slow down enough for the gasser to catch up.

Now that I have a few flights on her, I decided to make her stand out from the rest of the Arf's out there. I'm modeling her after black 14. She should be ready to weather this weekend if all goes as planned.

Oh Yeah! Very nice work there Ram!
Great match on the colours, and don't worry, you weren't the only one hating Phil at Fighteraces when he did such a good job of that colour scheme on the Sist.
Thanks
dave

Thanks Gents,
Hey Frisco, I sanded the original surfaces as best as possible, then used sandable high build automotive primer on the bottom of the wing for that red and used a finishing lighter weight primer on the fuse. Then wet sanded the entire bird with a 300 grit foam block. I had Lowes mix up some outdoor latex Valspar paint.
The stencils are from Fighteraces.com. Mine didn't stick as well as I'd liked to the fuse and required a little extra effort to make them work. I had several areas lift as I was applying the paint.
Funny thing, when I installed the sliding canopy, the tape was pulling the decals off.. When I wanted to remove them, they had to be sanded off[:@]
