Yeah, I was walking thru Walmart, and saw a can of camo "greenish gray" Kylon, and it looked passable in the store. Did a little sample, and its not...too green. I intend to paint the plane at some point, maybe I'll do the dark gray for now and get it right later. If Testers sold it in spray cans, problem solved. Such a PITA to use the airbrush since we moved....I miss my garage!

Mike,
Gear is RLM 02 like Ram said above. I use Latex too. I took a paint chip set from Crandall's book down to Lowe's and had them do 1 pint sample cans from their color match system. All the RLM colors. All are a perfect match and only $2.98 per can.

Good tips, don't know why I was thinking quarts, and not sample sizes. Can Lowes match the color right from the Testers bottle, or does it need to be sprayed so they can match it.
Jason, what chip book are you referencing? I like the idea of having a color chip book to get multiple colors mixed from!

Mike,
My bad the book isn't from Crandall it is from K A Merrick called Luftwaffe camouflage vol II. Here's the link in Amazon. Probably one of the best authoritative sources on Luftwaffe paint and it comes with a paint chip set.

It has paint chips too. There is one mistake in it, which is the RLM 81-82 colors; They are wrong, but otherwise a nice book.

Kwik, that's a great one too but nearly impossible to get unless you pay a mint. Monogram was the original paint standard for years until the Merrick book came out. You are right about the RLM 81-82 but like you said, still a fine book....just pricy since it is out of print.

Kwik, fair enough. Both are from the same author. I got mine for $60. Not sure why it is so expensive now. I think it is still in print.
Anyway, both are great references if you are a serious Luftwaffe modeler.
VG, using Testors is always the easy and quick way but eventually you will want to paint more than a little bottle worth or want to know more about the colors or insignia sizes. The two books cover all the measurements of the insignia which makes it nice if you want to mask off and make your own. Well worth the investment in the long run.
BTW, VG, I like your thinking outside the box and using the Testors as a color match.

Maybe once you move on to something more scale than this plane. Most guys at the field still call this thing a Meshersmitt! lol
#2366
Most people at flying fields across the country call ANYTHING with a swastika on it a Meshersmit!! Whats even more funny is that even when they say that, they still don't have a clue how it's even spelled.
"No you moron, its not a Messerschmitt, Its a Focke-wulf."
A whaaaat?
A Focke-wulf!
But, Germany flew meshershmits!!!!
Hits moron over the head. "dumb ass"

I wasn't even referring to you. HAHAHA. It was directed at generic douches that come to a field near you and don't have a CLUE about anything WWII or military related and ask the dumbest questions that any google search would have inform them of.
Dumb ass shows up to field. VG is about to fly his Mig 3. Dumb ass says. "Hey, that plane isn't right. American planes have white stars." That is the type of person that should be hit over the head.

The Mig has never been called a Mig, it is always referred to as a "Yak". So, the point is, I would get your struts as close to the color as it makes you comfortable. As we can get caught up in the very minute details, there are very few if not any, that will recognize that you missed the shade just slightly.
My secret, My Fokker DVII is covered in 5 color losenge fabric. The real aircraft was actually covered in 4 color losenge fabric. It has taken 1st and second place at 2 Scale masters qualifiers. So, go figure!

I seem to recall in this thread that there is an adapter so you don't have to drill four holes in your props!
Who makes it and would it work on my Turnigy 50cc electric?
Thanks
Dan
