I agree. Shame on CARF. One reason why I like to convert to electric BEFORE it is built. The electric gear CAN be removed for service with no problems. Simply remove (4) bolts and unplug the wire.

Yeah I see that, sadly the gear issues were discovered after the plane was already built. still overall though I like this kit, much better and lighter than the wood kits out there. I had some jerry bates stuff... talk about heavy.

Hopefully the electric mains will hold up.

I have the carf P-47, those gear are fine as they have locks up and down, I don't understand why darrel set these up with pressure lock?

The lock works the way it does I think because of the way the arms fold on the Corsair. If they cammed over any farther, they would not unlock without some sort of spring or something. The jack screw system makes the lock down positive. You will need to drill a small hole through the spar for the jack screw, but this has not been a problem.

Hi Gary. Re Electric Wings for the Corsair that need help going up or down.

I have tried out the grease on the hinges with very little improvement. I bought through Mitch an Amp Out Meter. Could you possibly tell me what your Amp Out Meter reads when you raise or lower the wings. I am using 7.4 batteries fully charged with very short leads. Have you come across this problem at all? I have some Programme Boxes coming back from Mitch (which I blew up). Hope you can put more light on this issue.
Cheers Corbo

Hello Corbo. I'll need to get with my brother on those readings. He is the electronics expert on our teem. As for the mechanics of it, We have not had the problems being reported by some other users. Here are things that can impact performance. I know you have already address some of this.

- wires as short as possible
- wires of heavy duty gauge.
- use 7.4V
- arms move freely with jack screws removed
- lubricate joints
- no binding between the leading edge hinge and the arms
- lubricate the front hinge as well

The rest is in the motors and control box. If we run into anything else while working with the builds we have on hand, I will certainly post.

Intakes being installed. Fitted and taped in place. Epoxy will be worked in around it with the wing sitting on the leading edge.

Been asked for some pictures of the things we are making for this plane. Here are some I have ready. More to follow.

The lighting system. Remember, this is specific to this airplane, not a generic assembly of parts you need to modify.

Stainless steel engine stand offs for the Moki 215 / 250. Never could understand why these are always aluminum, when we need weight up front anyway.

My aluminum instrument panel. I have all the instruments, aluminum bezels and clear for it as well. Need to get a picture of all that. I'm sending it out with the tiny screws as well.

For those of you who have this kit, Gary's add-ons are essential IMO. I have almost everything he makes and still holding out for a few more before I get back to the corsair ;-)

Getting ready to send out canopy systems. :-) and thanks for the support.

BTW, we will be building another one for ourselves and I intend to use it to develop some more items.

Gary, could you help me with info on the lights?

I think i am missing some and i dont know which are flashing. I am putting the lights in my size 50 Corsair.

Tail = White

Fuselage top = Blue

Right Wing Tip = Red

Left Wing Tip = Green

Right Wing Bottom = Red /Green / Yellow

Left Wing Bottom = White

Is there a Blue light on left wing bottom?

Are there two landing lights or others i am missing? What lights listed are flashing?

Thanks for your help

Ok Keith. First, no lights flashed (this would have made a great target). Only if you are modeling a restored Corsair with currant nav lighting will anything flash. Second, there are blue formation lights on the top of both wings, and on top of the right wing, in front of the blue light, there is a white one as well.

So, here is the lighting for the F4U-1A. (note the wing tip colors)

Tail - white

Fuselage top - blue

right wing bottom - red, green, amber (front to rear) (these were eliminated on late model Corsairs)

right wing top - blue, white (this light was eliminated during the F4U-1D run)

right wing tip - green

left wing tip - red

left wing bottom near the tip - landing light (white) (later Corsairs had a landing light in the leading edge of the left outer panel at the root)

left wing top - blue

Hope this helps.

Here are some pictures of the canopy rail system. I provide wood wedges just as the full scale had. The cockpit area was tapered, so the rails needed to be shimmed parallel to each other. This wood was stained a dark reddish color. The wide part is to the front. Also note, the 3/16" tubes in the front rails will face the firewall.

Are these shipping Gary? I don't need the electric servo, the firgelli ones are direct connect to rx, prefer those.

Yes. I have several of these made up now. Let me know how those drivers work. I have had problems making two motors work together. It jams the canopy sideways if they don't. For that reason I now use one in the middle with a spreader. This is rigid and the canopy closes evenly 100% of the time.

The drive system I am using is based on the Down and Locked motor / jack screw setup with thier micro processor amp out control. I'll post some more pictures of that as well. I'm doing electric because I have eliminated all other air from the fuselage.
