RE: ESM Mitsubishi J2M3 Raiden build
Just measured my prop driver and its a shade over 3", about 3 1/4". At this length the motor is a snug fit, but it definately doesn't touch the cowl anywhere. Has the standard tin exhaust too, with the outlet pipes cut short. The plug cap sits in the chin cooler, about 3/8" or so back from the lip. Sounds like the 3" one you can get would be usable.

I've been eyeing one of those 1/6 scale BBI WW2 Japanese pilot figures. They are definitely the nicest looking pilots around, but they are OOP and demand top dollar.

I've gotten my G62 mounted. I ended up cutting about 1.5 inches from the fiberglass cylinder motor mount. This system is a really cool idea. Kudos to ESM on that one.
Like Idigbo I offset my motor slightly. This is by far the best way of getting the whole motor hidden. I am using a Bennett muffler and will cut the two pipes flush with the cowl.
I ordered the ESM spinner, should be here in a few days. I used a backplate I had laying around for mock up.

I think those would look small in this plane . I will take a pick of a 1/6 scale pilot in the cockpit for you...

here is a 1/6 scale pilot in the pilot seat.
Here is the 1/6 compared to a couple 1/5 scale pilots

Hey Idigbo, got any pictures of your hidden servo setup on the wings? I'm thinking of doing something where I'm still mounting the servos to the hatches, except the arms point down and not through the hatch.

On a side note TBM has extra canopies and cowls. I ordered an extra pair.
Since I am going to be running electric retracts I can't have an air cylinder opening the canopy. Any ideas for doing this electrically? I'd need about 4.5 inches of travel. Do they make linear servos that big? I also contemplated a 360 degree servo with some sort of rack and pinion type setup, with the pinion being the servo drive gear.

Sess, if I strip and glass mine, it'll get a sliding canopy similar to one I've fitted on an ESM 50cc Spitfire. The set up is very easy, operates off a standard servo and is very free running with as much movement as you need, the Spitfire has 100mm movement. Also, the aileron linkages I'll do on it if I strip are detailed in that thread too.
Heres a vid of the canopy

That cockpit is looking great Ty, mine has a 1/4 scale pilot at the moment, it what I had but I agree 1/4 scale looks a bit big.

I got my ESM spinner today. I can say I'm happy I ordered it because you won't get the right profile with a parabolic. I will likely grind down the point by the spinner screw though. Here it is next to a TT Rare Bear spinner.

I used a nut and bolt and chucked the spinner in my drill for some minor reshaping. Still needs a little more though.

I'm kinda confused on the ESM electric retract situation. Tomas at VQ told me that the latest shipment of electric retracts he got two weeks ago were the G2 variety which retract in about 10 seconds.
TBM, however, now has a video about an "upgrade board" you can solder into the G1 retracts which basically make them G2's which they will be selling. However, TBM also says the G2's won't be here until April and will be more expensive.
I guess I will ping Tomas at VQ about this, but he hasn't returned the last few messages I sent him. Could be the holidays, but I really wish he would list a phone number to call him at.

Nice Job on the cockpit, It looks like the seat height is low on the 1/6 scale and person size looks ok to me, remember the 1/6 scale is 12 inches tall and most Japanese aren't 6 foot.
