How s the sheeting quality on the FW?

On the Corsair I feel like any wrong move and my fingertip will poke through.

Flight reports? Anyone? Lots of chatter in this forum. I have not gone through all the posts but not much on flight reports. I hope Darryll at Sierra is making retract units for the Topflite FW-190. Robarts are not my cup of tea and that comment is being quite reserved as to my true opinion of Robart comparred to Sierra gear.

The idea of stripping all the ''monocrap'' covering off and finishing with glass cloth and resin is also well worth the time and effort. My last giant TF P-51 was monocote. What a dissapointment on a single hot summer day. I spent more time ironing my plane than my white shirts for business.

Too bad they can't make a hybrid between ''monocrap'' and roofing shingles. At least roofing shingles lay down flat in the hot sun.

Your disinclination for Topflite is quite apparent...

The ''Smith's'' on here don't contravene in respects of material used or what they have chosen in lieu of.. They hasten without pessimism.

Great role models for all to ensue....
WOW! That is an amazing reply. I wish I knew what it meant.

Don't laugh... but I couldn't get the mutant hot glue to release after trying all the mentioned and other methods..Soooo, I did things my way..lol Built new, more scale ailerons. I'll have them hinged hopefully here soon. I also modified the flaps to be a little more accurate.

What was the glue type you found bonding the hinges to the wood?

I don't know. It looks like white hot glue but it's hard as a rock. Almost glass like. Guess you won't have to worry about them coming out in flight..

I see, yeah its very easy to shatter, brittle, it must be a fairly fast glue for the production cycles. Ive seen it but have not ID'ed it.

Just wondering Ram how easy the Monocote came off,the wing looks really clean.I'm thinking I'll start stripping mine off if its not a major chore..

The monocote came off extremely easy. Once I had a corner, it just peeled away. The edges were the only part that seemed truly adhered to the plane. The control surfaces have a better bonding though.

The sheeting isn't bad at all. Soft 3/32 Balsa

BVM V-Poxy looks and feels like that. Sets up in one hour....not cheap stuff either. It's all I use because its great stuff. I would expect that it's something similar being used here.

Casey

Oh and I guarantee ya, if Vpoxy shatters, the glue joint will be the last thing you are worried about.

Do you think they will offer an ARC version? I think they will promote the ARF as long as the sales are good and when they see any tapering off of ARF sales they may come out with a ARC. If they do I will wait till the TOLEDO show in April and hopefully pick one up there or at least have a conversation with the guys at the Topflite booth.

I think since this a brand new release that calling TF requesting a ARC would be futile at this point in time.

Ramstein44....I really have enjoyed your pics of the SIERRA install.

I think a lot of people were considering or have purchased the ARF, purely hoping that it could be flipped. Considering what all has to be done to do it, I thinks it would be in TF's best interest to release an ARC. I agree that we should push the issue though and it's pointless if ARF sales are booming. But hopefully like the P-51 and P-47, eventually (I hope) they'll release the ARC... Or this will be the last I buy... No pressure..

No problem with the pictures, I enjoy sharing any information I can on my favorite butcher..

Ailerons are done on this wing. They're removable by a piece of piano wire going all the way through them. I use this method with great success. The engineering process seems to take forever but I think it's worth it. Still have the flaps to do. I'll use the factory ones but they're larger then they should be to be scale but I'm assuming that TF had a reason for this.

Since I have decided to wait for the ARC and still will have a lot into "flipping" it I may just brush off my table for a scratch build of the Heinkel HE-100D-1. I designed and drew up a set of plans for it 20 years ago and sold the rights to the plans but I now have a set of plans that are for a 82" version. The original was 74". The new DLE-55 RE will fit very nicely in the slender nose. I will still keep my eye on the FW-190.

Here is a picture of the completed HE-100 with 74" wingspan and my plans.
Cute shot of my wife too! I sold the plane but have kept my wife.
I have everything I need to build it but will have to make a bigger "plug" for another
canopy and have FG Specialties pull some canopies for me.

Nice..Well, I removed the TF from the table in order to finish my Platt FW190A. It's past time and the hard part on the TF is over so I'll get back on her when N8 can catch up..lol I look forward to seeing all the cool stuff you guys do.

No thread on this one. I figure there are so many as it is on Rcscalebuilder and I just wanted to kick back and enjoy it, Besides, it's taken me many years just to get it to where it is now. It would've been a boring thread.
