Working on the tailwheel. I modified it with some pieces I had lying around. Not exactly like the full scale but better than the wire. Here is also a possible substitute ( http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXRWW9&P=7 ). I also don't like the wire looped around the ball links so I used Actual ball links. All hooked up and working great.

I'm still considering this bird and was wondering how the HK tail would work as another option.

That is a nice unit. I have seen one at our field as one of our memebers had his HK Spit out a couple of times.

Personally, I like shooting these things down..lol But that's my second most admired version of the spit. Strip it and make that version. The covering removes easily. Tower must smell the money burning as they just sent me another significant discount coupon.. The low altitude version calls me.. It would be a lot easier to assemble, not doing to many modifications like the FW190 needed.

I'd have to strip this however and place a few access pnls and what ever else the aero detail offered.. It would give me something to do until the corsair comes in from Hanger 9

I looked at that option. HK says they will not sell the TW separately and you would have to build a plate in the fuse to mount it to. Mine doesn't look quite as nice but was easy enough to do.

Engine was easy to mount. Ended up right at the 6 3/4" recco distance.

CaptG,

Will the muffler you plan on using require the cowl to be cut?

Won't know about the muffler until it can be tried on the Spit. They are still on BO. Love the tailwheel unit. Who sells it? I discovered that the pictures showing the fuse servo installation are mislabeled and incorrect. The way the tubes were installed in my plane put the rudder servo on the outboard edge. Very careful attention is required during servo install to insure they do not interfere with each other. I also had to cut some of the bulkhead away for the rudder travel.

That's the Sierra unit. I want to use a larger motor and questioned the DLE85s setup with a larger 3 or 4 blade prop. Do you think there will be space for it?

Good to see that you are using Hitec servos

The tail feathers are now glued on and hooked up. No issues. The cowl is mounted and reinforced per the manual. The only issue was the spinner screw needed a little machining to fit well. The bottom will be opened up some more to accommodate the muffler pipes when I get one.

LMAO.. Yeah, I would... But I'd like to do the low altitude version. It'll all depend on what I see when I pull it out of the box and remove the covering. I'll have to make my exhaust stacks from scratch as I'll be doing the MKV but if it's a pain.. their will be a swastika on it..

Mk. IX Spits came with clipped wings too, and have twelve exhaust stacks.

This might open up ,a can of worms , but it appears that TF has depicted the aircraft Sq markings incorrectly. My brief research has revealed that this particular aircraft was probably assigned to No. 57 Operational Training Unit at RAF Eshott Dec 40 - Jun 45. As such, the Sq letters "JZ" should appear fwd of the roundel on the left side and aft of the roundel on the right side. The aircraft letter "W" should appear aft of the roundel on the left side and fwd of the roundel on the right side. Any comments?

I don't think a small detail like that detracts at all from how the Spitfire looksAs good as they are, these TP warbirds are more sport scale than an exact replica of the real thing.
There is always the option to make new markings, that is what i am doing with my P-40, the Chinese star markings don't really smoke my tyres

Yeah, I considered that one. You'd have to modify the tail also..

Many, many Mk.IX's were built with clipped wings and the original short chord, rounded rudder as well. In fact you can find almost any combination of wing/rudder/canopy if you look hard enough!

You don't have to make new markings - just put them in the right locations. BTW , this is my TF P-40.

Now that was helpful.. Can you get me more information on that bird or point me into the right direction? I looked but didn't find much.
