Nice plane! I am concerned about your reference to adding lead to the cowl. Most cowls are made of fiberglass and are NOT a structural component. They are cosmetic and adding weight in the cowl often results in the mounting holes in the cowl wallowing out, or failure of the cowl to hold it's shape. You might consider moving the weight to the engine box, if possible. Might require a little more weight, but it won't be noticed.

In any case, enjoy your Zero. They are terrific flyers.

Thanks for the comments. Thought about all that. No engine box. DLE55 rear carb mounted on stand-offs. Already used that area for elect. ignition box etc. Due to the moment and spacing, if I put it in the nose of the plane (i.e. behind the firewall), I would have to add almost twice as much weight. I reinforced the cowl and doubled up on the mounting joiners. Will just keep a close eye on it for a while. Shouldn't have to worry about bouncing on landing, because all war-bird landings are perfect greasers, right?????

I made a plate from polycarbonate, zip tied to my engine stand-offs, then attached the lead to the plate. Seemed to work out pretty well. I have a DLE 35RA in mine and it needed about the same amount of nose weight.

Put about 6 more flights on mine that past weekend, it's getting better all the time. This is one great warbird.

I know this thread has not been active in the last few months but I need some help. I am building a zero and I want to go with the white paint scheme. Can anyone tell me what shade of white is on your planes I am going to be painting a different brand ARF and want to get the correct color.

Thanks to Tomas from VQWarbirds I finally got my Zero several weeks ago from a pretty long wait from the factory. I am at the stage of mounting my DLE55RA engine. Is this too much motor? I see other use DLE35s

Also, is the CG placement recommended on the manual correct?

Thanks for any help

fw190! I received my Zero from Tomas last week as well. Going with the DLE-55RA, more weight and power up front. The DLE-35 is enough to fly this girl but not enough to let her run. Also, the Sierra retracts for this bird are a true work of art (priced accordingly). So now I have a Zero, Hurricane and LA-7 still in the box. Decisions Decisions!

I am almost ready to maiden my zero. Just need to put a pilot, canopy and the gear doors. I had a set of the Yellow Aircraft Zero retracts in hand and that was a PITA to put in. When I get a chance will put some Japanese green over the white covering. Looks like I need about 6-10 oz to balance and all the batteries are mounted just above the motor.

Well I did not quite finish adding on the gear doors and top green paint, however it survived the maiden today. It will need major down thrust, took off within 20 feet and had to push forward quite a bit during any high throttle passes. Basically flew it half throttle the entire flight. Need to dial in some dual rates for smoother flight.

Thanks! Its a great flying plane, a bit light at 20lbs could sure use some weight as it was pretty gusty today on its second and third flights was just getting tossed around. Might add in a tail retract.

Yeah,, North wind??? the Santa Anna winds suck, I never liked flying when it was like that,, maybe add a drop tank, you can weight down for ballast

Dang man,, when was the last time you guys had anything that looked like grass out there?

Next time I drive out, I'll bring a couple birds

I have seen the thresd some years after it was initiated. Hope all still have their Zero's in one piece and flying.

FW190, yours looks radical. I love does crazy looking camuflages and yours looks awesome. Love it. I guess it took you a while to paint it. The masking of the meatballs and the hallow effect around them looks great. What painting instrument did you use? Airbrush?

I have also a ESM A6M2 Zero. I have had it for some 10 years and is still in great shape. As a matter of fact I was flying it yesterday.
Hera are some photo and a video taken yesterday; The photos are not from yesterday.

Ordered the factory electric retracts. TBM recommends DA-50 or DLE-50 for engine. Leaning on getting the DA-50.
Need suggestions on kind/brand of servos to use for the primary flight controls. Would like to install RELIABLE and BEST Quality servos.
Thanks in advance.

do you know where the CG is at on this 88” zero?
