Hey All,
I have received the electric retracts (main and tail). Looks like the sequencer has spot for the 3 doors as well which I plan on doing. Can someone offer a little advice on what to use to operate these doors? Micro servo? etc?
Thx

One thing to consider when swapping out servos. Most of the recommended servos for this plane are High Voltage. If you are running a low voltage power source, then you do not really need the HV servos. And, ... If you are running HV power source, you might want to consider being careful to avoid Low Voltage servos.
The two recommended gear door servos are standard sized servos. I put Hitec 5585MH in on mine. They are capable of HV. However, the torque of a 5585 is not needed. But, I have had good luck with these and have them in many planes. I set up all my bigger planes to handle HV, even If I do regulate it down to ~ 6VDC most of the time. Hard to wreck a HV servo with 6 VDC.

DLE-55RA users......
Just searched back through this thread and seems some misinformation about using a DLE-55RA.
so just to clarify and make it easier for the next group of P-51 builders here are some questions..
1. What standoffs did you use? Size and where did you get them?
2. Stock muffler requires what as far as sanding some of the firewall down?
3. Jtech does list a muffler made for the H9 P-51. $160 bucks....requires no modification to firewall?
Thank you in advance!

Thanks Barracuda. Just have a few little things and it will be ready. I screwed up and glued the main gear strut cover hings when i was putting them together and now they don't follow the gear up and down so i'm redoing them. I still have 1 and 1/2 foot of snow and temps below zero so it will be a little bit.

Just have a throttle servo that sets off to the side just in front of the fuel tank and ran a rod back in side the cockpit for the choke. Not sure I have any pictures if not I'll get some next time I have the wing off.
For the baffle I used the stock one and add a little to it to get closer to the cylinder and covered the holes in front of the battery box. Hope to be able to fly in a few weeks so not sure yet on the heat.

The Canopy was a little trying just take your time. I was having a hard time tapeing it all down and hoping it was straight when the glue dried, so i held the frame to the canoy off the airplane and drew line useing the frame rail for a guide then put it back on the fuse and aligned every thing put and seen how the lines matched did that a couple time until the lines were in the right place then tacked it in a few places one more trial fit then glued it up. used rubberized ca work just fine no fogging. I just read back though this sounds red neck as heck maybe you better do it by the manual .

This is not really holding up compared to the F4U Corsair kit.......not sure if Hangar 9 changed suppliers over in Vietnam?

You are right about the fit of the instrument hood and panel = Bad! When I got to that fit-up, I stopped working on the plane for several weeks and ultimately I am saving that work and the canopy for last. However, ... with bypassing that, I figured out a better way to hide the three switch/charge ports. Also wiring in an ignition LED in the instrument panel will be a lot easier.
I finally got replacement Main Gear Doors. The originals were very deeply scratched with heavy sandpaper and then painted over with clear coat, which had runs and sags. The new ones also had some scratches. But they did not have clear coat problems. So, on they go. I have put together a lot of ARFs. This one, while it has some nice scale details, just has too many construction flaws for my liking. If I was to do another P-51 and I could get along with a one piece wing, I probably should have gone with AeroWorks' model. Don'tget me wrong. There area lot of nice aspects of the H9 P-51. I guess I am a fan of a quick build plane.
