Hi everyone:

As I have not updated the thread for a long time, just tell you that there has been no opportunity yet to properly release the P-38.

I have gone twice more to the airfield with the intention of doing so, but in the first one the settings of the carburetor transmission were again insufficient, with what we spent all morning setting the system until we managed to leave the idles on par. It's amazing how two identical engines, with perfectly regulated carburetors, have such a different position from the throttle butterfly. As I said, the issue seems to be already resolved.

The second occasion was a day of pure anticyclone throughout the country, where the fog forecasts in the Ebro Valley failed, which did not lift as planned. In the end, back home without being able to release.

For the rest, between work and that the sun has barely been seen for many weeks due to the persistence of fog, I am still waiting for the occasion.

Of course, as long as the temperature is not better and the climatic conditions improve, I will not tempt luck again, because the movement of transport and assembly is no nonsense. Better be cautious and wait for more auspicious days.

So I have started to build a new project, this time as a commercial kit, with the aim of renewing my old towing machine Bidule 116.

I will keep you posted, of course. Greetings.

Today, finally, after three failed attempts, the P-38 has flown for the first time. I have uploaded an improvised preview of the video, which I will edit completely later.


I will describe the feelings perceived soon

Way to go Fernando!! Long hard work has paid off. I've never followed a better build thread. The plane took off so easily, as though it was filled with helium.

Thanks Trevor. Not helium at all but enough power for such a wingload like this.

I am satisfied for not having done a very heavy finish. An excess of functional details usually overload our models and negatively influences the quality of the flight.

Now I have to check everything before putting it into flight again. As for my next project, now I just think about enjoying a good season of flying sessions and renewing my tug aircraft. Further ahead, who knows?

Hello everyone:

As promised is debt, here is the link to the full video of my P-38 Lightning, a quarter scale. It is a footage of just over 19 minutes in which I have tried to put together the main details of its conception, design, building, airfield assembly and, of course, its first two flights.


Well, I hope you enjoy it as much as I have. Although I put it at the end of the video, I want to dedicate part of it to my dear friend Paco García-Cuevas, to whom I owe as much as a person and aeromodeller. I know he would have liked very much not to miss maiden flight.
