RE: New TF Sea Fury!!
My Sea Fury needed weight in the nose so I created an area forward of the wing mount under the fuel tank for the battery pack (heavy 1800mah c cell pack). That was the furthest forward that was practicle.
Am i the only one building the top flite right now? Anybody near or around the same building point?

Got the CJ retract system mounted and sorta set-up, which brings up a question; DOes anybody know how to slow the speed of the cycle down? I was afraid the plane was going to break the first few times messin with the gear because they were shooting. up and down so fast

A visit to the local hobby shop and the outlay of a couple of bucks should get you a packet of restrictors to put in the air lines. I almost drove my retracts through the top of my ARF Sea Fury the first time I actuated them. Scared the crap out of me.
I only need one in the main air line to slow them down but you can also put another in the line to one of the retracts to give differential movement of the legs when cycling.

Where can i get these air restricters?
I looked into the robart valve but dont know if it will work with the century jet system that i have, does anybody know?

Hi David...
The Robart valve sure does work with the CJM system, in the same way
the CJM deluxe valve does. Both are infinately adjustable and offer
a great scale-like effect.
Hope that helps.

Do you have the deluxe valve with the 4 screws? If so, each screw adjusts the up and the down of each side. If you have that valve, tighten the screws in all the way and slowly unscrew until the gear moves at the speed you want. Otherwise you can use wheel collars on each air line.

This is the one i have, i think it is the cheapist simplist they have. With the two main gear i need 5 "nipples" to set up, but i dont know how many the robart has, their two-way has 5 and they say that at tower, but the adjustable valve does not say.

Yep, you got the budget valve, but it'll still work fine, it'll just take a bit longer. Take 4 large wheel collars and replace the set screws with regular screws. Cut 4 pieces of air line about 3/8" long and split them so they can be slipped over the lines coming out of the valve. These will keep the screws from damaging the air lines. Slip the wheel collars over the air line and tighten them down to adjust the speed of the retracts. Easier, cheaper and more tune able than restrictors. Hope this helps.

I might try that, another thing i was just thinking about when i was testing the retracts was that i was cycling them without wheels.
So maybe 4" wheels will slow them up a bit, or will they be too fast. Either way, i will probably try some different valves to get the "scale look" of the undercarrage going up.,

I like the idea of adjustable valve the best, hadn't seen them before. I use restrictors over wheel collets, only because I personally don't like the idea of squashing the air line. Wheel collets probably work great but like I said, it's a personal choice.

Also, tower doesnt offer the delux valve for CJ, does anyone know a link to it?
Thanks

Well unfortunantly this project is going to have to take a hault for awhile due to moving to our state cap, so i am sorry for anyone who was following this building thread.
Even though building has stopped, has anyone built and glassed this kit? Top flite says that it should weigh 10-12 lbs assuming it will be 12 with flaps and retracts (which im building) Plus an extra pound because they advertise wieghts lower than actual, so my main question is regarding this plane being to heavy to add glass? It has 842 squares in the wing for reference, and am really starting to think i will not be happy with monokote.
Any help or comments will be appreciated,
David

bummer to see you have to stop for awhile as i really enjoyed "looking in" on your workshop. i know how it is though to have to set things aside for awhile. don't leave us hanging for too long though.

RE: New TF Sea Fury!!
well its made me want to build.
when i am building should i buy the retracts before i build the wing or would i be able to get away without them.
iam thinking of building the Top-Flite P-47.
DMehalko did you use any other glue other than CA to get the sheeting done on both wing and fuse.

Glad to see some interest in this thread, i am currently building a nice workbench at my new house so will get back going on this kit very soon, dont you guys love kit building?
a6m5zeke, That is one good looking sea fury, i can only hope mine will look that good when completed, have you flown it yet?
