Have a question regarding the tailwheel on P47. What size wheel do you all use? The plan calls for 1-1/4.

Thanks OZ, from some of the pictures it looked as though they were smaller.

I used a 1.5" tail wheel. It looks remarkably scale. I thought that the kit called for a 2" wheel.
I also shortened the the arm on the Robart Retract by about 7/16".

finally managed to keep the black dog at bay long enough to do a little work on the 47 yesterday, minimal amount but at least I did somethign which was a positive.

Had some pink filler over some of the scribed access hatches to fill in the panel line running through thos hatches. Wet sanded that back and applied couple of thickish coats of grey primer.

Just needs a light sand on those areas then I can start rivets.

charged up the hog sat but come sun could not motivate myself to go to the field. Oh well.

Woof, F'ing WOOF damn black dog, somebody shoot the mongrol thing [&o]

It looks like I'm caught up on other stuff. I'll have to take the 47 off the shelf and get it back in shape. I think I left off with having to do panel lines and rivets[:@]. Oh well it's not like having to rivet the whole wing.
I'll go through a refresher course on how to for Prekin. If you are still tuned in. Let us know.

Hey Pete! I'll race you.

Hey guys - wow what an epic thred

Im forriging ideas for my next build and a p47 is at the top of the list (everyone has mustangs and these have a very unique look). Would a saito radial fit in one of these big boys? like the 3 cyclinder 450? I think it equates to around 73cc but way cheaper than the 50cc FIVE cylinder radial (the 325).

I'd love to have an engine with a more scale sound than a 50cc DLE etc in a bird like this (costs alot more I know!).

I could build the 71" version but I think i'd just wanna go bigger!

Haven't seen too many in New Zealand either so its something different to the billion ARF mustangs out there

go with a petrol motor, far simpler and the sound of a satio 3 cyl sounds like a demeneted sewing machine, hardly scale at all.

I'm definitely back on the P-47.
Here is what I did today. I laid out the panel lines from my 3 view drawing with a #2 pencil and put the 1/32 chart tape over the pencil marks.
I just put two layers of primer over the the area that I repaired. I'm going to put one more layer of primer over just the tape when i get finished here. I'll let dry overnight then rivets.

Haha! That is one way to describe it I guess...obviously a DLE 55 is a WAY cheaper and simpler option.

Would one fit though?

Hay Pete

Just a thought about that Black Dog it might be your best buddy (so to speek) for a bit, and from my notes I have been herassing you in this thread for 4 years, and all up's for me, But like my brother say's after #5 you just have to keep trying

Have finaly got started on the bipe, Weeks Spec that I picked up last spring at Toledo having to do a lot of hack and wack on the engine box and into the firewall to get muffler tube out the bottom so I have somthing to do this winter

Winter has set in hear 23 Deg's and going down to about 15 then the weather guys say snow for next 2 days, So enjoy the warmth[8D]

Will send this mess over to Old Tom

Cheers Bob T

Bob,
mate have had enough of the black dog for a lifetime. Need to get out and excercise as that will get rid of the rotten thing.

Keep on harrasing me mate, I need the motivation! Will do a few rivets tonight so that will keep me out of mischief and thoughts away from blasted females!

Take care mate and good luck on the bipe!

cheers
Peter

Well Bob you really don't have to do me any favors in the weather department. It's almost here. It was about 65F today and the day after tomorrow it will be 36 for a high. But that's Indiana for you.[sm=bananahead.gif][sm=spinnyeyes.gif] These are very good representations of me when i'm doing Rivets or thinking about Minnesota weather.[:@]

I haven't been in here for all seven years, but I did sit down over two evenings and read the whole thread from begining to end before posting in it for the first time. Like Tom said it has had it's ups and downs and so have the people in the thread. Along with this I seen many a friendship bloom.... such is one of the pleasures of this great hobby.
