Hi Pete,
We had to fly out to Thangool today to help a group we are part of to set up for a full size fly-in this weekend. The car is now packed and we will head to Bundy in the morning, should get there 9.30ish. The weather looks good, should be a fun weekend of warbird action.

Anyone got any pictures of their setup in the giant p-47? I'd like to see some pictures of the inside of the fuselage, and of inside the cowl. I just want to compare to see if my setup is ok

Bob,
was not a bad weekend but again had technical issues with the plane which kept me grounded Sunday. Got one flight in early Sat morning then a very gusty and turbulant wind came up and I was not willing to risk the plane.
Bloody inner gear doors, the horn kept break off. Will pull the doors off, rebuild and reinforce them with a large diameter plate for the horn buried within.
anyway the one flight was good. the engine ran sweetly on the new 7% nitro mix and it was damn fast! Landing was quite nice. Caught up with Mick aka boltman and his loverly wife Helen and a few others so a good weekend all round.
cheers

Best thing I can suggest is check page 115 thru 200 should have the pic;s your looking for, due I to a computer crash I no longer have some of my pic;s I do have the mod for the soft mount if that is what you need,
Cheers Bob T

Peter and all:
Hope you don't mind me asking, but I was just looking at the plans and have a couple of questions.
1. Plans show a 2+ degree right thrust offset. Did you use that or did you install it "straight"?
2. Plans show a "soft" mount for the engine. Will the mount as shown on the plans work for an EME-60 engine? Or would you just mount straight to firewall in a "hard mount" fashion.
Thanks in advance.
Glenn

Ya short memory just like every thing else HeHe and mine is no better, but a lot depends on you engine length and how much you want the hub to stick out on the cowl, I like the soft mount as the plate can be made of steel to provide the nose weight needed. when I did my repair I used a pice of 7/16 plate cut the same as the ply shown this ment I did not have to add any extra nose weight.
Hope this helps

From memory and no comments from you bob, I buolt the firewall as per the book with the right thrust built in. I used soft mounts and a thicker mounting plate in order to get the clearnaces needed.

I've been busy the last few weeks. Guess what. The Jug has flown again. Got two flights in 2 day ago. Lost the wheel on landing. No Damage, just the axle came out of the LG. I remounted it with some locktite and also put some locktite on the other set screw. The only problem I still need to address is the cowl screws. Half of them backed out during the first flight. I replaced them and made sure everything was tight. When I landed half the screws were gone again. They were just wood screws into hardwood but I'm going to redo them with T-nuts.
The nice thing was that the plane flew great. The ZP-62 ran flawless. ( Nice to be able to fly and not worry about the engine quitting.) The Electric retracts also worked great but I have to get used to how slow they are compared to air retracts. Another good thing is that I have to take some lead out of the nose. Since I removed the air tank the plane is now nose heavy. I'm having fun flying the jug again.

Tom I had the same problem with the screws backing out on my Trojan.
what did which it worked for me was enlarging the hole and gluing inside of it small pices of Sullivan yellow pushroad, the inner part of it that is.
Now the screws bite into the plastic and no longer come out.
Take care

Medium CA worked good for me. It fills the groves in the pushroad and bond real well to the hardwood mount. Just drill the hole slightly bigger than the yellow pushroad and glue in place.

Been using the plastic inserts for about 10 years there pre cut to length and in a lot of sizes #2 to 1/4 they are color coded for size, work well for wing mount screws any thing that might com loose, the only thing I have found negative is you don't want a tight hole to put tem in.
have not had any of my bird out as the weather has been eather wet windy or both, I hate long winters and S@#$ty springs
